Polka Doodles Challenge #11

Hi there!

What a crap couple of weeks I've been having ! ! Firstly my step-mum was taken into hospital . . she is out now but still very unwell. Then to add to the chaos, Steve decides to fall off a ladder whilst cutting the hedge and break his wrist in 5 places ! After several visits to the hospital he is finally got his permanent cast but they are concerned by the level of swelling & bruising ! Hey, ho . . I'm still smiling . . I am!

Well the challenge this week over at Polka Doodles was to make a card that could also be a gift. I have used papers & digi images from the "Doodle Tweets" section of the new Candy Doodles CD . . . which has sold out 3 times on Create & Craft . . . way to go Nikky & Kris. As my card has to be a "gift" as well as a card, I have also decorated the inside too.

The outside of my card . . .

and the inside . . . .

Sorry for the quick post but I have loads to catch up on due to my week being spent up at the hospital & also being the only "taxi" in the house at the moment ! Apologies for the poor photo's but only good light I could get was in the bathroom!

Take care everyone and promise to catchup with you all very soon,

Happy Birthday Diana

Happy Birthday to YOU
Happy Birthday to YOU
Happy Birthday dear Diana
Happy Birthday to YOU

Yep, it's my FF DT buddie Diana's birthday today and all I know is that she is way younger than me ! ! ! I have sent a parcel of goodies over to Diana and I am hoping that Royal Mail have done their thing and got the stuff to her in time . . . I know . . . don't hold your breath ! Anyhow, hope you have a great day; get spoilt loads & receive lots of yummy crafty goodies . . . as well as other stuff!

Here is the card I made for Diana and I wanted it to be fresh & bright just like Diana's personality.

Papers: Funky Fairy "Lil bit of Happy"
Stamps: Sugar Nellie coloured with Promarkers

Have a great day and just in case I forgot to say . . . "Happy Birthday to YOU" !

I'm so happy . . . .

Guess what? A while back the lovely, talented Dawn over at Inspirational Card Sketches sent me an email asking me if I would like to be a "Guest Designer" for the next 2 weeks. As you can imagine it was a hard decision . . . yeah right (not) . . . . of course I said yes straight away ! Then it hit me, I'm going to be a "GD" on one of my fav challenge blogs and I could feel my mojo slowly leaving the building . . . which doesn't help . . . after a long chat with myself & a quick slap, I got started with my card.

Firstly, here is this weeks sketch . . .

and here is my interpretation (which I have flipped) .

I wanted to do some stamping this week so ther is no DP at all on this card. Lots of chalking, inking & over stamping to create the different layers. The stamps I have used are from Graphicus "Flora Bella" set and they have been neglected for too long. The Tilda image I won as part of a "Simon Says Stamp" prize and have never inked her before now . . . I know . . . unforgiveable!

I have coloured Tilda with my Promarkers and added a few white gel pen highlights. The flourish frame & card blank were cut on the CraftRobo by my hubby . . . he's finally realised, "if you can't beat them, join them" ! ! ! The flowers are from Hero Arts finished with a brad (source unknown), sentiment from a free magazine set & ribbon from stash.

Can you guess that I am so happy to be a "Guest Designer"for ICS ! ! ! lol Now the pressure is on as have to make something for next week too . . . must have a good rummage through my stamps to get some inspiration. . . .

ps: now hoping that Mr Blogger is working as I have scheduled this post to appear as am at work today!

Happy Birthday Lana

. . . for yesterday. I did remember but Mr Blogger schedule thingy didn't work properly and then I got all flustered, so silly me, deleted the post. So . . .

Happy Birthday to YOU
Happy Birthday to YOU

Happy Birthday dear LANA

Happy Birthday to YOU

I'm hoping the card arrived safely but have to be honest and say it didn't go in the post until Saturday . . . I know . . slap on wrist for me. However I know you had a great day (been & popped over to your blog to catch up with your birthday goss) and got spoilt rotten, as you should.
Happy Birthday again Lana,

ps: I know I normally sign my name as LuLu but to Lana, I am known as Lou !

Last Minute Lou . . . again ! ! !

Just going to make it before both these challenges change for another week ! Definitely got to get out of this "Last Minute" thing I have at the moment. Have to say, do have a valid excuse with family illness but that won't always be the case !

My first challenge card is for Inspiration Card sketches

Now had to really think about this sketch because wasn't sure if I actually liked the layout and couldn't see it working for my style. However whilst making a Christmas card for . . . . can't tell it's a secret . . . I realised that this sketch lended itself to a snowy scene.

Papers: Funky Fairy "Dots are Distressing"
Stamps: Elzybells "Snow Landscape" & large snowflake
Gems & ribbon from stash

I have used Elzybells "Snow Landscape" stamp coloured with my Promarkers & have to say loving that Prussian Blue sky ! ! The snowflake stamp is also from Elzybells which I have stamped onto the background paper, then stamped onto a scalloped circle & finally onto a circle: as a finishing touch, I have a lplaced ittle pearl gem in the middle. These are all layered on top of each other to give me the 6 panels. Finally finished the card with my ribbon thingy . . . basically little bits of ribbon tied into a knot!

Do you know that this is my first Christmas card of 2009 !

My 2nd challenge card is for Funky Fairy's and their theme this week is "Girly".

Papers: Funky Fairy "lil Bit of Happy"
Stamp: Greeting Farm "Miss Anya"
Brads from stash
Lattice frame designed by hubby !

I have used a Miss Anya stamp coloured with Promarkers. The lattice frame was designed by hubby & cut on the Craft Robo. All the papers used are from Funky Fairy's NEW "Lil Bit of Happy" kit . . . these are so much fun to work with. The flourish shape (?) is also from the same kit, cut in half and secured with 2 huge brads !

Anyhow, off to clear up my mess and I have some exciting news to share with you all but you will have to pop back on Tuesday because I can tell you all then ! ! !

Have a great week everybody . . . I will as have now definitely got out of "school mode".

Polka Doodles Challenge

Well it's the "2 month" anniversary over at Polka Doodles and Nikky is celebrating but giving away some Polka Doodles goodies. If you saw her on Create & Craft on Tuesday, you would of seen the fab new "Candy Doodles" CD and the "Sugar Birdies" CD and if you join in with last week challenge (runs up to this Sunday), you have a chance of winning the "Sugar Birdies" CD . . .in fact there will be 3 winners . . . now I can vouch for these CD's . . . they are lush!

Well this weeks DT challenge was to follow a sketch Nikky drew and to use any of the items found on the "Candy Doodles" CD.

The first card I made was using these fab, gorge, brill papers from the "Garden Collection" - they are just so easy to use and ideas just flow. My brill hubby Steve cut out a bracket shaped card (think that's its name!?!) and then I just filled the card blank!

The quote I found on the Internet on a quote site for gardeners (!) which I thought was apt. I decided to thread some ribbon into a row of punched holes . . . however being a wee bit of a plonker (no comment required here !), I threaded the ribbon from both ends and was left with this unsightly loop in the middle . . . aaaahhhhhh ! Luckily I had several small offcuts of ribbon which I knotted together and then tied these to my ribbon loop . . . hey presto, it actually looks like that was meant to happen !

When I put my card on the DT blog, several of us had used the same papers so I thought I'd make a 2nd card as I wanted to show everyone how versatile these papers really are and how many occasions they can cover. Voila . . . a quick baby card.

Pram cut from a circle of paper from the "Dolly Mix" collection and the hood was created by pleating an off cut of the same paper. Added wheels, brads & a ribbon for the added extra touch! The large scallop at the top of the card is one of the fab embellishments found on the CD.

Looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with following the sketch . . . and you have up to the 2nd August to get your entry in.

Playing around

. . with Mr Scheduler ! It just doesn't want to work for me one single bit ! I'm blaming him as I know it can't possiblely be me ! ! ! lol x

Have checked that when I schedule am in the correct time zone, date thing in correct order . . . you name it and I have checked it. Does it work . . . does it heck as like ! So am having play to see if I can get it to work.

Have schedule this post to appear tonight (23rd July) at 9pm- so let's see what happens !

LuLu

WOW, I've made a card ! !

Finally got time to sit down and play with my crafty bits . . I feel that they are becoming neglected as I usually have to visit them at least once a day! Too much happening and too little time - I need one of those time things Hermione Granger has in Harry Potter ! lol

Anyhow enough of the waffle, my card actually covers 4 challenges in one go (see Diana, you're rubbing off on me !!!!)

Pile It On - to use mainly orange
Charisma Cardz - fab sketch
Daring Card Making - use a fairy image
Secret Crafters - spots & stripes

Paper: Funky Fairy's "Cherish" set
Image: Stamping Bella
Flower panel cut on Craftrobo
Ribbons from stash

The fab paper I have used has subtle spots & stripes on it (as per Secret Crafters theme) & you can just make them out behind the flower cut out (thanks hubby x x x). However the cutesy fairy has stripey tights on, so that another source of stripes ! ! Additional dots can be the flower centres . . . do you think I might be grasping at straws here ? The card has been made following the Charisma Cardz sketch but I haven't put the sentiment on the card, as I wasn't 100% sure what occasion I wanted the card to be for . . . so for now, it will remain sentiment-less!

Daring Card Makers wanted everybody to be "Away with the Fairies" so I have used this fab Bella image which was sent to me in a RAK by Diana (cheers hun) and I have coloured her with my Promarkers. She is layered onto a big "Flower Stacker" from Polka Doodles and then dangles over the front of the card by acetate. I was trying to go for a flying fairy feature . . . has it worked? I know she is not a true fairy but I think she looks very fairy like . . . . . . . !

And finally, the card is very ORANGE as required by Pile it On. I only seem to use orange as a background or as a hint on my cards but must admit I'm loving this card and will definitely be using this colour as the main colour again.

Well off to catch up with the neglected washing basket and I suppose I better hoover my crunchy feeling floor ! ! ! Apologies to any houseproud people out there.

I'm back!

It's been a very stressful week this week; loads of family things happening; lots of too-ing and fro-ing; school breaking up & trying to clear classrooms etc - you name it, it's happened. This has meant that I haven't had the time to do my normal card making stuff which I have sooooooo missed. Probably like a lot of you, it helps me unwind & switch off from all the things I either don't want to do; don't know where to start or even, don't want to think about just yet!

I quickly made a couple of cards for challenges that I always enter each week and I didn't want to let the girlies down. The first card is for . . .

Polka Doodles

Nikky asked that we used the FREE Tropical Birds download this week to create our project which was fun. I used one of the birdie images which I have coloured with my promarkers & then layered. Papers are from the "Sugar Birdies" CD.

Sentiment was computer generated (but can't remember the font) and flowers are from my "bits & bobs" box. The only I don't like about this card . . . you can see the silicone glue through the coloured images! I have used a different CHEAP, NASTY glue as my original glue had run out. It has bleed through even though I have printed onto the same coated card as I normally do. Won't be buying this stuff again.

Nikky has put an optional sketch on the blog if you would like to use this with your FREE download. Also there are chances to win BLOG CANDY for the winners this week. Go on, pop over and join in with us.

The next card is for the fabby . . .

Inspirational Card Sketches blog

I know, I know, I always say that I love the sketches but have to say loved the sketch but didn't know what to do with the side swirly bit. That totally & utterly stumped me! Was nearly going to "throw in the towel" as the first card I made was "pants"! Suddenly remembered that I had already coloured in this Dustin Pike image and that was it, card simply came together really quickly.

I made a "path" for my characters to stand on & then quickly doodled a sign post (swirly side thing that stumped me originally!) & have handwritten onto the signs with a white gel pen. A "for YOU" added to top corner as per the sketch. All the papers are from Polka Doodles.

Hope everyone is having a fab Sunday and I'm off to pretend at being a "domestic goddess" this afternoon . . . pretend is definitely the correct word!

Crafty Creations Challenge

Well simply had to join in this challenge as it is sponsored by the ever so talented Nikky from Polka Doodles and has my fabby Doodles DT mate Saskia on the Crafty DT . . . what more persuading could a person need ! !

The theme this week is "Birds" and here is my card . . .

All the papers, frames, topper & sentiment are from the "Sugar Birdies" CD and the fab large flower is from Nikky's "Flower Stacker's" . . my new must have. The ribbon is an offcut from my stash.

The tree trunk was cut by hand and if you look carefully yo can see that I have hidden part of one of the branches under the toppers branch. The canopy was made by punching out 3 scalloped circles using my SU punch. The edges have been lightly chalked for further definition.

WOW, 2 posts in a day . . . I'm on a roll. Hope everyone is well and as I said previously looking forward to catching up with everyone over the weekend.

Carisma Cardz challenge

Just wanted to share something with you all . . . . this is a piece of hardboard which has now been altered to make a photo picture! It was actually my prototype / theme board to give ideas of colours/layouts/photos/embellishments etc before I started work on those canvases. I wanted to use acrylics with digi papers etc. Now you all know that the canvases went wrong and they are still in the cupboard under the stairs . . . can't look at them just yet . . . maybe once I break up! Anyhow I think my prototype could be entered for the Charisma Cardz challenge this week as the theme is "Alter It" !

I painted the hardboard with a mixture of crimson & black acrylic paints. The papers & sentiment are from Funky Fairy's "Just Hanging Around" kit and have been printed directly onto watercolour paper which was first painted with a cream acrylic paint & lightly sanded. The paper was thoroughly dusted before it went through my OLD printer! It gave the papers a more aged feel without really aging them! The edges have been further distressed with the same paint colours.

The photo is from our wedding day 20 years ago - gosh, we hated all the mushy poses the photographer wanted us to do - however I think this quote from the same "Just Hanging Around" kit, is fab as it works on so many levels.

The circle embellishments on the side are also from the same kit mounted onto watercolour card, silver stickers from Reminisce & finished with a pearl brad.

The flowers are from Poundland and have a fab velvety feel to them and the ribbon is from Heidi Swapp. Not sure if I will display the prototype as yet as it might be a reminder of "Canvas gate" but then again . . . it could make me go and sort out "Canvas gate" once & for all!

And guess what? We break up this Friday . . . I so need the holiday to begin. Hope everyone is well and on my 1st day off, I'm going for a MEGA blog hop.

Where has the time gone?

A week has literally whizzed past and I simply don't where it has gone to! It has been slightly manic at school as we rev up to the end of term. I have been spending LOADS of time with Class 6 on their leaving project - we are jazzing up picnic benches - new colours & specially designed table tops ! ! !; arranging 2 surprise parties for teachers that are leaving us; making memory albums for said teachers from the staff & children and desperately trying to keep up with my DT duties. I'm starting to panic a bit as I know I just don't have enough time left to complete everything . . . that's if I want to eat & sleep as well. So please forgive me everyone if I haven't been around to visit you or join in my normal challenges this week.

However, I have managed to make some bits for the following 2 challenges:

Digital Tuesday - the theme this week is "Sweet Birthdays" - we have been asked to make a birthday project with something "Sweet" in it.
Funky Fairy's - a recipe challenge (eek) - use 4 papers, 3 embellishments, 2 punched items & 1 image.

I have used the fab NEW "Cupcake Crazy" Kit from Funky Fairy's Papercrafts for this card. The main background paper, sentiment & cakes are all from this kit. I thought that this sentiment was just perfect for the Digital Tuesday challenge. The matting & layering papers are also from Funky Fairy's "It's so Distressing Vol1" kit. One of the best thing about all the new background range of Funky Fairy's papers is that they each colour match perfectly with each other. So that's my 4 papers (if you include the white one - which I do!)

My 3 embellishments are the ribbon thingy at the top. It's just offcuts tied into a bundle and then stuck on the top ! Nothing technical there then. As for the punched items . . . I did just punch 2 lickle stars but they looked so lonely that I had to punch a load more . . . sorry girlies.

Finally the 1 image is a "Funky Fairy" herself coloured with Promarkers. Voila, ma carte est finis . . . sorry to any french speaking people in blog land if my french is not brilliant . . the last time I learnt French was in school and that was 23 years ago!

Take care,

DCM & Sketch Saturday challenges

On to the 1st lot of challenges . . . to take my mind off "canvas-gate", I made another card . . . not that I needed an excuse really ! The card is for 2 challenges:

Daring Card Makers (DCM) - to use "Blue & Green"
Sketch Saturday - struggled with the sketch a bit . . . it was what to do for the side embellies that threw me.

As DCM wanted us to primarily use "Blue & Green", that was the colour scheme for my card. I was also very good and raided my scrap box & have used up some more lickle papers & card. The image was sent to me in a RAK and being a dragon, I coloured him green (with blue bits!). Cupcake is an SU stamp & sentiment is from a set by Missy B designs.

Hope everyone is well . . . I'm covered in paint after working with the Class 6 children today on their school leaving project!

Digital Tuesday & Pile it On challenges

Firstly I want to say a big thank you to everyone for their words of encouragement regarding my canvas mishap . . . they are greatly appreciated . . . however went back this morning to see what I can do & still stumped, so I have put it back inside my portfolio case and will leave it a little longer before I try and rescue it! I'm still so cross with myself . . . . aahhhh!

Now . . . . . . . . this one is a little "outside the box" but I hope you like it. The theme this week over on "Digital Tuesday" is "Summertime". Also the theme for "Pile It On" is to use 3 different embellishments which I have . . buttons, sequins & beads!

I am a big fan of digital papers, downloads, Cd's etc and wanted to show people that you don't always have to print onto paper, card, vellum, acetate etc and for this project I have used digital papers & images (from Funky Fairy's Papercrafts) but instead of printing the designs onto paper, I have printed them onto a fabric transfer sheet . . . . . and then used them to decorate a T-Shirt! I actually made the T-Shirt a while a go as part of a DT project for Funky Fairy's Papercrafts but it does fit with the "Digital Tuesday" theme perfectly.

The T-Shirt !!!

closer view of the pattern

ME wearing the T-Shirt

Well what do you think? The main design was compiled in "Works" & not a fancy editing programme. I fitted all the pieces/designs I needed onto one A4 piece of transfer paper so I can honestly say that decorating a T-Shirt is economical. The main pattern was ironed directly onto the T-Shirt & all additional elements were first ironed onto cotton fabric and then either stuck or sewn onto the T-Shirt; further embellished with buttons, sequins & beads. There you go folks . . . . try printing onto something different and you'll be amazed at what you can make.

Off to have a long over due mug of coffee & a I think I'll treat myself to a cake. Catch up with you all really soon,

5 challenges completed today ! ! !

I know that sounds impressive but I had to do something today or I would cry ! I have been working on a project for last 2 weeks as part of my DT duties for Funky Fairy's Papercrafts which involves canvases, acrylic paints & papers . . . . when today I noticed that I had made a WHOOPING mistake . . . I was so upset with myself that I didn't know what to do. Was about to put the whole lot (3 in total) in the bin when Steve took them away with the instruction to "make something" - he was looking at me as if he couldn't see what all the fuss was about ! So still seething with myself, I decided to have a "Blog hop" first (as you do); listed down a few challenges; felt calmer and off I tootled. Here's what I've been up to:

Inspirational Card Sketches and a Spoon Full of Sugar challenge
Look ICS girlies, I've made my card earlier than normal . . . yay! Yet another fabby sketch which I have printed off and put into my sketch folder as I will definitely use this one again & again . . . . I know . . . . I say that every week but if you pop over to the blog, you'll see what I mean . . . . .

I have mixed stamping with paper piecing as my first thought when I saw the strip down the side was . . . tree ! I have cut out the trunk and branches freehand & then using my SU scallop punch, made the leaf canopies. The flower, sentiment & butterfly are from SU Garden Whimsey set and I used my promarkers as I wanted to create shading on the flowers. Finished the butterfly off with co-ordinating gems and ribbon is Heidi Swapp. Have to say, that I enjoyed making this card and it did cheer me up a little.

I also think this card does say "Summer" or "Summer's Day" and therefore it fits perfectly with the "Spoonfull of Sugar" challenge.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Now the next card covers 4 challenges in one card . . . hope your proud of me Diana ! ? !

"Funky Fairy Challenges" - the theme this week is "Beach" ; "Cute Card Thursday" wanted us to use stitching on our projects; "A spoon Full of Sugar" has the theme "Summer" and although I have already made one card, I thought this card could also be entered ! ! ! Finally I followed the fab "Friday Sketchers" sketch - was so inspired to join in with Friday Sketchers after I saw Carole's card on her blog.

I have used the adorable "Doodle Stars" & "Dots are Distressing" papers from Funky Fairy's Papercrafts. Image was sent to me in a RAK which I have coloured with my promarkers. Lots of faux stitching and finished off with a boat which I have cut from the scraps of afore mentioned papers. Sentiment is a rub-on by Reminisce.

I now feel calmer now but will leave the canvases for a while and go back to them early next week. Have a great weekend everyone and isn't it nice now that it is a little cooler.

Polka Doodles Challenge #7

WOW another week has whizzed by and although I am glad we appear to be getting a summer, I have to say a little rain wouldn't hurt at least to break this humidity.

The challenge the DT were set by Nikky was to use the Cherry papers from the "Sugar Birdies" CD and to incorporate a hidden element. I have to say that I really struggled with this challenge . . . but that was my fault. I had originally made a card to submit but then realised that I had not included a hidden element . . . worse still I couldn't adapt the card either . . . aaahhhhhhh! So I sat at the table looking at the papers and NOTHING came to mind what so ever. Finally after telling myself off, I came up with this card:

Papers & elements: Sugar Birdies CD
Embellies: from stash

hidden bit peeking out

hidden bit

Not overly happy with the card as it seems to be lacking something although I'm not sure what - but I am happy that I have actually made something for this challenge as it was looking like I might have to bow out this week!

Off to catch up with all my blogging buddies as its been too long. Take care,

Charisma Cardz challenge

Can you believe it ! ! ! I forgot to blog my card for last weeks challenge over at Charisma Cardz . . . I am so miffed with myself to say the least! However there is definitely a "silver lining" as this weeks challenge is to use buttons . . . yeah, can enter this card as it has buttons on it . . . even if it is only 2!

I've made another stair card, (my new obsession ) using the cupcake papers from the "Sugar Birdies" CD.

I have layered different sized cupcakes on each bit, chalking & layering them a little. The BIG sentiment at the back & the smaller "Happy Cupcake Day" I printed off on the computer onto plain white card. The cupcakes have been embellished with heart punches & buttons plus I glazed the cherries. Forgive the poor photos as they really don't show all the layers & embellies I added . . . need to improve my photography skills . . . yet another thing to add to my "to do" list!

My minutes of fame!

Yep, I was on TV today . . . . even if it was just showing some of my DT samples for "Polka Doodles". Nikky was on the noon slot over at Create & Craft today showing off her fabby Sugar Birdies CD, Freddie's Friends decoupage & the Flower Stackers. I maybe a bit biased (as I am on the DT) but her stuff is an absolute dream to work with and most peeps do know that normally I run a mile from decoupage . . . paper piecing, yep . . . . decoupage . . . . NO WAY! However have to say that Nikky MAY have converted me as I found the sheets so easy to work with and I now have some fabby boys cards in my stash to give out on birthdays.

Nikky was an absolute star and didn't look at all nervous; she was chatting away merrily to Nigel and completing the demo's like a real pro - way to go Nikky . . . enjoy your large drinkie poo's tonight! Here are some bits I made and guess what? They were actually shown . . . . so chuffed! lol I'm not going to show you all everything I made, so please don't panic.

Firstly . . . . I made this as I wanted to show off bits from the CD and how I remember what was what (as it were). At the end, I put a note pad with a sketch on (as a doddle) and then made a card from my own sketch !

Here is the card I made using the sketch:

As I said earlier, I usually run a mile from decoupage but loved these cute sheets and here is one of the cards I made:

Well I'm going to finish now as am still on a HIGH but must end by saying a huge WELL DONE to Nikky for bringing us the "Sugar Birdies" CD and to all the other DT girlies whose samples were drop dead gorgeous. Please go check their fab blogs to see all their wonderful projects - deets on side bar.

Hope you all managed to catch the show and if not, look out for the repeats - it is definitely worth watching.
