Recycling at its best ....

We were asked to use newspaper in our projects this week at Polka Doodles and I know I am a tad late (!!!) but I couldn't get a decent photo of my card. Rubbish light and shadows appeared everywhere. I have asked OH now to make me a light box thing and am hoping that this might help me especially as I am not very good at doing the "tweaks" in my photo package either .... lol

Here is my card and I have used up loads of paper scraps to create the bunting but I wanted to make sure that the wonderful sentiment took pride of place ....

Newspaper: from sons paper round!
Ribbon and buttons from stash
Glitter leaves: from an ornament found in £land
Swirl ?: die cut was given to me

I have inked all the edges of the bunting and used a layer of newspaper as my background paper; inked of course.

I am entering my card in to the following challenges:

Hiding in my craft room - using scraps
Polka Doodles - paper piecing with newspaper
Sentimental Friday - use sentiment and anything goes
Aud Sentiments - Christmas sentiment

Well better go and make some food for us .... I'm starving! I think it's this cold weather as I feel the need to eat and eat ..... and possibly then hibernate ...lol

back from the cold ....

It has been a little manic the last couple of months and I have had no time to do any crafting or anything relaxing really. Things are little calmer although, will get a little bumpy again in the New Year but hopefully with a happy ending a from the bumpy, pot holed road I have been travelling on. Anyhow enough of the "down stuff" as Christmas is around the corner (I am sooooooooooo behind on absolutely everything) and the festive season begins in earnest ... one Christmas party done and another 2 to go .....

I am very late entering my card in to the Crafty Creations Challenge and I would like to thank everyone on the DT for bearing with me and being so understanding. I misinterpreted the theme (!) and had to start over again ... anyhow here is my card ....

Embossing folder: Freebie from a craft mag
Glitter, ribbon & glaze from stash
Snowflakes: Cutting file from "Gingerbread Twist", Polka Doodles

I have used the snowman image from "Here comes Christmas" CD from Polka Doodles. I wanted to make him look frosty, so I have covered him in glaze and as it was setting, I "cracked" the glaze to create a vintage, frosty feel ..... I know what I mean, I'm just not communicating it very well!

I have made the heart image glazed too, layered on top of a further heart and this is sent to everyone who has been very supportive .... mwahhhh to you all x

I am entering my card in tot he following challenges:

Crafty Creations Challenge - winter scene
CD Sunday Challenge Blog - frosty days
Red Carpet Studio - use a snowman/snowflake
2 Sisters Challenge blog - snowflakes

Well better get going as have load of cards and gifts still to make .... at this rate, they'll be getting them next Christmas .... lol

Snowflakes .....

I always love the cutting files Nikky adds to the Picknix CDs and just have to use them wherever possible and have made a quick, easy card with 3 of the snowflake designs by layering them on top of each other.

Papers, sentiment and snowflakes: Ginger Bread Twist from Polka Doodles
X Cut label dies
Scalloped edgeabilities
Doodle gems
Swiss Dots embossing folder
heart punch

I printed the background paper straight on to my 8"x8" card base and distressed the edges. I then cut out a "hole" by hand, from the card base, which is covered with an embossed die cut frame. The sentiment was my definite starting point for my card as I adore it; simple but so thought provoking.

The large snowflake has been made by layering up 3 different types of snowflakes from the Gingerbread Twist CD (which were cut on my CraftRobo), finished with a red heart and seam binding ribbon knot. Really effective and textural and didn't take long to make.

The smaller snowflakes were made in the same way from different sized snowflakes ad finished with a red heart and Doodle Gem. The other photo shows how the large snowflake sits on the side and also a quick glimpse of how I decorated the inside of the card.

I am in the process of writing up a little explanation of how to import the cutting files and will post it once I have finished.

I am entering my card in to the following challenges:

4 Crafty Chicks - dry embossing
Flourishes - Winter theme

Have a great weekend,

A TRIPLE easel card !!!

Hi everyone, Lou here ....... yep, it's me ...... I haven't disappeared. Sorry been a little caught up recently with family health issues and haven't had time to share any of my projects made using the every so wonderful "Gingerbread Twist" from Polka Doodles.

I fell in love with the house image on the CD (drawn by lovely, crafty Dee Paramour) and knew I had to use it on a project, so decided to make a triple easel card .... yep, a TRIPLE easel card! I even surprised myself and used glitter .... me and glitter are not a match made in heaven but needs must ....

This is such a quick card to make as the I used the pre-coloured images. Printed them out several times so that I could layer them for added dimension. A little glitter (yuk) and red Liquid Pearls and the toppers were made.

Side view, so that you can see how the toppers are stepped back on each other. The steps were made with layers of torn paper, heart images and big blue buttons .... and the dreaded glitter!

These 2 photos show the toppers in more details and also the FAB sentiment which comes from the "Here comes Christmas" CD (also from Polka Doodles).

Well gotta dash as toying with the idea of popping up to  the Kettering show today .... my mojo needs a severe kick up the derriere!

Happy Sunday everyone,

Lou

Chocolate Free Advent calendar

Here is something I made for the recent release of Polka Doodles Picknix CD latest release ... "Gingerbread Twist" which is fab to work and design with. Being a newbie to Serifs Craft Artist, I have had great fun playing with all the different elements although I would probably advance further is occasionally I read the help files!

For one of my DT projects, I have made an advent calendar which looks after all our waist lines .... it has no chocolate! Instead there are little messages under each number with Christmas activities or rewards which I thought would be great for the children or even for the "child within us adults!".

It is really simple to make as all it is flaps which I have then stuck on to 12" x 12" card and then decorated the front with the numbers from the alphabet section and loads of images from the CD.

I created little flaps and they have a "turn up" at the end so that the numbered flap, stands out more as I did not want the flaps to be flat. I suppose it was my way of making sure people realised that there was something under the flaps ...... lol x

Under each flap is a little note with a suggestion with an activity to do that day leading up to Christmas. Above photo shows an example and no two messages are the same!

I am entering my Advent Calendar in to the following challenges:

Anything goes - Christmas
Christmas all year round - include a Christmas present. There are some on the main topper and on some of the flaps.
Aud Sentiments Challenge - Christmas sentiment
Anything but a card - anything but a card!!!
The Pink Elephant - use patterned paper

Well gotta dash as have loads of school prep to do an time is whizzing by ....

Guess what ...?

I was very lucky to be picked to join in with the girls on the Crafty Creations Challenges as a DT member following their recent DT shout out. Ubber excited but have to get my head around Yahoo where we all meet up ..... I think it's an age thing but will get there in the end!

Well this week all the newbies have been asked to join in with the challenge to introduce ourselves (as it were) and the theme is a great one "Summer" and as I have just got back off my hols and didn't have much time to create, I whipped up this quick card.

Papers: Websters Pages
Marianne Design butterfly die
Cuttlebug "Happy Birthday" folder
Sentiment: Pink Petticoat
Button & ribbon from stash
Scallop edgerabilities die
SU border punch

The "stick" for my pin wheel is made using a liberated (!) Starbucks stirrer which wasn't why I liberated a few of them but works well for this card.

I am also entering my card in to the following challenges:
Craft Your Passion - emboss it
Whoopsi Daisy Challenges - 2 patterned papers

Well better get a move on as have to take Aaron to the opticians for a contact lens "putting in/out" lesson, having me hair trimmed and the grey hairs banished, the dog is off to the groomers and I suppose I better catch up with some house hold chores (yuk).

Needed to make something .....

... and found these stack of papers in a drawer ... DCWV Rock Star pack .... which I haven't used in AGES and I mean AGES! My crafty clearing up came about just before I went on holiday as I managed to hurt my foot and was on crutches. Not being able to settle at anything due to the pain, I thought I would distract myself by tidying up my craft stuff and sort out any bits that I can use in school ready for the new term. That's how I discovered this pack of papers and also 4 packs of K&Co matt stack papers .... so watch out as I think I need to use up some of the old stuff before buying any more new stuff that "I MUST HAVE" ..... okay I now have to admit (before she comments) that I am in the process of buying a load of stuff off Charlie from SU !!!

Anyhow, I waffle on and have now lost what I was going to say and share ... oh, DCWV Rock Star papers. Here's a quick card that I have made only using 2 papers ... go figure, you would of thought I'd use loads more but for some reason, it didn't happen!

I have add the charms, tickets, bottle cap, chipboard bits and bobs for AGES too and thought I'd use as many as possible to make my card. I squashed my bottle top in my Big Shot but I think, I might of over done it a tad as it is now completely FLAT! The letters are from a whole wad of Letraset sheets I found neatly stored in a folder which again, I have had for AGES and really must use them up before purchasing anymore sentiment stamps or rub-ons ..... (uuummmm think I might have broken this promise already!) You remember the ones I mean .... loads of big alphabet sheets that were used in the 80's/early 90's with tracing paper in between to stop them sticking together or the letters pulling off?!?!?

I am entering my card in to the following challenges:

Hooked on Craft Challenges - a card for a man
The squirrel and the fox - one for the men
Paper Play Challenges - sentiment as the main focus

Well off for a coffee with a friend and to catch up on all the village gossip .... gotta be done!

Another one ....

... it's a bit like buses I suppose .... don't see any Christmas cards and suddenly there are 2 this week! However we have glorious blue skies and WARM sunshine, so you may not see any further Christmas cards from me until nearer the time. Uuuummmm, won't promise mind you.

The challenge this week at Polka Doodles is "Celebration" as it is the closing ceremony of the Olympics and haven't we done well? The whole event has run smoothly, portrayed the country wonderfully and also some cracking #teamGB results. Anyhow, I digress, here is my card for this weeks challenge:

Papers: Polka Doodles  "Here comes Christmas"
Image: Emma Canning"Mistletoe Moment"
Ribbon and glittery leaves from stash
Coloured with promarkers
Scalloped edgeabilities
Sentiment: Stampin Up

I've cheated a little as I have made my celebration "Christmas". I have used one of the new Emma Canning images for my card; "Mistletoe Moment", although I have been a little cheeky and split the couple up! I have used the girl by herself for my card, coloured with promarkers and the papers are from the new "Here comes Christmas" CD.The glittery bits are from some leaves I found in a sale in January and knew they would come in handy! Red gems are those lush "Doodle Dew Drops".

I am entering my card in to the following challenges:
Polka Doodles - celebration
My Mum's Craft Shop - Christmas
Sweet Sketch Wednesday - sketch
Tuesday Alchemy - "BINGO" I have used the line: Ribbon, glitter & dies

Well gotta dash as today is busy, busy, busy. I have to get myself up to the hospital (again!) to see how my foot is healing (maybe I can come off these crutches as I am sooooo unco-ordinated with them), quick trip to the dentist, visit a friend, get Aaron ready for the weekend and then tidy the house (yuk),

I can't believe I've made ...

... a Christmas card soooooooooooo early in the year! However I had to use one of the new images from Emma Canning and as I have neglected my promarkers for a while now, it was great to have a little colouring session. I have used "Angel" as she looks so serene but then you know what they say about the quiet ones .... !

Image: Angel by Emma Canning
Nellie Snellen, Spellbinders & Marianne Design dies
X-Cut heart punch
Ribbon & pearls from stash
Gold Liquid Pearls
Sentiment printed on to Safmat
Coloured with promarkers

I have deliberately coloured the image in soft tones as that is how I thought she wold look being so angelic. The baubles were made using off cuts of handmade paper, a little border, heart and dots of liquid pearls. The Spellbinders Lace Doily background is actually the grease proof paper I use to help cut the dies and free them easily; it seemed such a waste to just bin it!

I am entering my card in to the following challenges:

Love to create - punches and dies
Whoopsi Daisy - punches and dies
Pink Elephant - use ribbon
Christmas Card Challenges - use something new
That Craft Place - things with wings
Clearly Inspired Challenge - things with wings
Dream Valley Challenges - die cuts and punches

Well better go and nag Luke as he moves in to his house tomorrow .... 4 lads sharing a house .... uuummm, not sure I'll visit there much! He has to take up the house early even though Uni doesn't start back until mid September but he's hoping to find a job nearer Uni to get some extra funds. Okay what hasn't he packed ......

Thank you ..

I was very lucky and received lots of yummy presents at the end of term and decided to be a "good girl" and get ahead with my thank you cards. I have been desperate to use the sun, rainbow and clouds on a card (from Studio 12 Picknix CD) and now had the perfect opportunity.

I made the topper design using Craft Artist and exported it so that it could be saved as either a JPEG or PNG. This was I could create a sheet full of toppers at the size I wanted as I find it easier to print my designs that way .... probably an easier way, but that's the one I can cope with ... lol

Picknix CD - embellies from "In the Garden" section
Wool and button from stash
X-Cut heart punch
Edgerabilities scallop die
Swiss dots embossing folder

Hint: Once you have made a topper design, highlight all the elements and group them together. This makes all the bits "become one" (as it were). You can then drag this new design in to your embellishment section ready to use on other projects.

I am entering my card in to the following challenges:

CAS-ual Fridays - things you see in the sky
Cute Card Thursday - clean and simple
Paper Pretties - thank you cards

Quick simple card which is what I need as I have 29 to make. I have decided to do the card bases in different colours to stop the monotony ....!

Happy Sunday everyone,

Lou

Long hot summer .....

.... well that this the theme this month at Mischelflo's Monthly Challenge but our summer seems to been and gone! Fingers crossed it might decided to pop back soon .... really soon would be nice!

Anyhow, what better on a long hot summers day, than to have a thirst quenching cup of tea! Saying that, I am more of a coffee drinker myself but if drinking tea, love a mug of Green Tea ; very refreshing. I have used the "Tea for Two" collection from Cosmo Cricket to make my twisted easel card ... all of which can be found in Michelle's shop!

This is such a cute set and the papers are so beautiful. There is a set of matching tags (large) to, which are great for mat and layering or use them as a topper on their own. Have to say that I have fallen in love with this set.

I am entering my card in to the following challenges:

Mishelflo's Monthly Challenge - Long hot summer
Sassy Cheryl's - pretty papers
Twisted Tuesday - anything goes
Whoopsi Daisy Challenge - lots off layers

Well I'm off to catch up with some domestic chores and then am hoping to have a mooch around blog land to see all the crafty projects out there.

Studio 12 giveaway

Nikky (of Polka Doodles fame) has kindly or evenly madly agreed to a monthly giveaway over on the Studio 12 blog. All you have to do is follow the blog and then leave a comment on the giveaway post ... simple as that!

All the DT have joined in for the giveaway and I have tried something new for me .... a fully digital scrapbook page! Have to say that it was a steep learning curve for me and looking at the page now, there are things I would change but hey, it's all part of the learning process.

Studio 12 Picknix CD - "In the Garden"

This is a page showing my son Aaron allegedly showing his cousin how to work the digger .... uuummm, no cousin in sight mind you and he had great fun for ages. I wish I had added some journalling to the page now and maybe a shadow or too but for my 1st attempt, I'm reasonably happy. Sometimes we are our own worst critics!

Why not pop over to the blog and say "hi", join in the giveaway and who knows you could be the proud winner of some Polka Doodle or Studio 12 goodies.

I am entering my page in to the following challenges:

Wags & Whiskers - try a new technique (digital page)
C.R.A.F.T - use stitching

Well better go and finish tiying up as I am the one who has made all of it (for a change).

Lou
x

Whilst tidying up

all my craft stuff yesterday, I came across some washi tape that I had carefully put away with the intention of using it ........that was ages ago!!! So I quickly made a card just to prove to myself (and my family) that I am not a "crafting hoarder" ..... uuummmm think I may have to admit defeat on the last statement.

Cuttlebug "Happy Birthday" embossing folder
Washi tape (not sure of manufacturer!)
Flower - Wild Orchard Crafts
Chipboard bits - Cosmo Cricket
Sentiment - Pink Petticoat
Ribbon from stash

As you can see a very quick card which helped me use up some of my card stash and little scraps. Loads more to still use up and I think I must become a little more ruthless with my hoarding obsession of these offcuts.

I am entering my card in to the following challenges:

Secret Crafter - bright and cheerful
Card Crafters Circle - clean & simple
Aud Sentiments - put sentiment on a tag
Fab'n'Funky - no stamped images
Divas by design - happy birthday

Well better go and get dressed as my pooch is sitting here with his head on my lap, giving me begging eyes, so I think he would like to go for his walk .....

Have a great Sunday,

Lou

Summer has arrived

Well what an evening I had last night and that then carried in to this morning!!! Told by Picasa that my web album was FULL and I could not load any more photos to my blog. After much effort (faff really) went on to my Picasa album and was amazed (gobsmacked) as to how many photos were lurking on there. Gosh there were some dodgy ones and that includes the projects I had made. After a good "trip down memory lane", I began deleting photos and albums which took "f ...o...r...e...v...e...r". I keep records of "my makes" on an external hard drive, so deleting from my Picasa wasn't too great a hardship .... until I find glaring gaps in blog posts where photos once lurked!

The theme this week over at Polka Doodle Challenges is very fitting considering the long overdue, glorious weather we have been experiencing and I did something this week that I haven't done for an age .... dig my promarkers out and have a good colouring session! I have coloured one of the gorgeous Emma Canning digi images which can be found in the Polka Doodles shop HERE. I have used "Taylor Camping Day" as she gives off a real festival vibe and fits this weeks theme perfectly. The only problem I have had with my card is photographing it as I decided to use acetate as my front cover .... 4 days later I got an okay-ish set of photos ....

I created my background using elements from the "In the Garden" section of the Studio 12 Picknix CD and layered them up using Craft Artist. I know this is a bit of a cheat, but helped speed up the whole process. I have coloured Taylor with Promarkers and added a dash of orange ribbon to make her "pop" further and of course, some baby blue eyeshadow ...lol

The kite was made using off cuts and the sentiment I had already printed on to Safmat from previous PD projects. The only thing is that my kite string is to thick and wonky which kind of bugs me but it's to late now to change it. The "Babe" is made using Doodlebug alphabet stickers.

I am entering my card in to the following challenges:

Divas by design - "Happy Birthday"
My Mum's Craft Shop - Birthday girls
Twisted Tuesday - to include a tree and a tied knot!
The Pink Elephant - summer
Simon Says - anything goes

Well better get going as have loads to do today and it unfortunately, won't get done by itself!

A very British "Red, white and blue" blog hop

Over at Polka Doodles this week, the challenge will be combined with a blog hop with a mouth watering selection of goodies Nikky is kindly giving away as prizes ... ever so generous is the "Nix-ster". To enter and be eligible for the prize(s) you will ....

1] Need to enter this weeks challenges
2] Start hopping at the Challenge Blog and then visit each of the DT involved in the blog hop
3] Leave a comment on each DT blog

The prizes are as follows:

Third Prize - Emma Canning Download

The theme this week is .....

"Red, White and Blue and what does Britain mean to you?"

Now you should arrived at my blog from Claire but if you have got a little distracted on your way round, just pop back to the  Challenge Blog where a full list of the blog order will be displayed.

For my card this week I  dived in to the  Not For Girls CD and I have used only 2 papers (Both printed A5 size) and 1 topper sheet from the Not For Girls CD from the boxing section. So for my card I only used 2 pieces of A4 paper .... very frugal ... lol. The gloves and sentiment have been glazed to add further dimension and the stars were cut using a sizzlets die.

Remember to leave a comment on this post and every other DT post to be in with a chance to win the prize but don't forget to enter the challenge too. The next place you need to hop to from here is to   Jan's blog.

Have a great time "hopping" around and I can't wait to visit you all to see how you have interpreted this weeks challenge.

New goodies ....

I received this yummy parcel from Michelle at Mishelflo Creative Crafting .... a plethora of Cosmo Cricket goodies from the "Tea for Two" range. I had to cards to make for friends whose birthdays are today, so I ripped open the packets and got making.

Papers: Cosmo Cricket, Tea for Two
Chipboard stickers: Cosmo Cricket, Tea for Two
Tag:  Cosmo Cricket, Tea for Two
Ribbon and pearls from stash
Sentiment: Polka Doodles (printed on to Safmat)

This was such a quick card to make and as all the items co-ordinate, it was sooo easy to create. The chipboard flowers are so chunky but still pretty and I just accented them with a few faux pearl gems.

I am entering my card in to the following challenges:

Sketch Saturday - their sketch
Lexi Creations - for a friend
Cute Card Thursday - gardeners world

This card was also made for another friend who loves anything vintage and never stops drinking tea (!) so the chipboard embellishments from the kit were just perfect for her.

Papers: Cosmo Cricket, Tea for Two
Chipboard stickers: Cosmo Cricket, Tea for Two
Tag:  Cosmo Cricket, Tea for Two
Spellbinders Parisian Accent dies
Tea bag (!) and flowers from stash

I did originally layer the embellishments on the centre panel but felt that everything looked samey (!) so cut a panel using Spellbinders Parisian Accents die for a contrast and also to make the gorgeous tea items stand out.

I am entering this card in to the following challenges:

Retro Sketches - their sketch
Secret Crafter - use pastel shades
My Sheri Crafts - photo inspiration challenge
Lexi Creations - for a friend
Inspired by - photo inspiration

Well I better get off the computer and get making a few more props ready for the Class 5 and 6 production tomorrow .... eeek!

Another bit of hybrid crafting

Yep, I have used another fabby cutting file to create my tag from the "All Sewn Up" section on the Picknix CD from Studio 12 at Polka Doodles. I imported the image into my CraftRobo software, resized it and then cut out the shape. Please note that this shape comes in a solid shape (as below) and is also split in to several pieces for layering.

I decided I wanted to get messy and play with my inks and mists which is exactly what I did. The manikin, papers and embellishments have all been inked, misted and embossed to give a more vintage theme.

I also printed lots of the elements on to Safmat which I then stuck on to card, distressed with inks & mists and as final touch, triple embossed.

The sentiment has been "cut up" to create separate words and then layered on to the tag. Loads of ribbon and a safety pin (!) and my tag was finished, Probably not as quick as just cutting and sticking but it was messy fun. Hopefully you get an idea that you can further alter your die cuts and printed papers to create the look you want .... go on, give it a try.

I am entering my tag in to the following challenges:

Sarah Hurley Challenge Blog - dimension and texture
Frilly & Funkie - texture
Simon Says Stamp - tags

Well gotta dash as I received several crafty bundles in the post to day and I need to play with them!!!

Gone all flowery

Well my garden is in bloom but with the expected winds and rain this week, I supect they will all be mullered before too long. This weather needs to stop as even though its rainy, it is still quite humid here and this makes the grass grow like it's on some super growth hormones!

Over on Michelflo Monthly Challenge blog, the theme this month is "Blooming Birthday Wishes" and this gave me the opportunity to use up loads of flowers that I have hoarded away in my flower embellishment drawer ..... yep, the drawer is HUGE and crammed full. Since I decided to have a "mid-year resolution" which is to either use up all my unloved stash or sell it or alternatively give to the school Craft Club, I decided this months challenge was the perfect place to start.

I made 3 different coloured tags all "Blooming" full of flowers and following the same design:

Dies: Marianne swirl and Nellie Snellen scalloped rectangles
Flowers: Wild Orchard
Butterfly: All that stamps
Ribbon: Pebbles Inc
Swirl stamp: unknown
Sentiment: Stampin Up
