Pan pastel .....

Well was so very happy in the week to hear that I am on the Premium Crafts DT and then to receive the most generous supply of goodies from Berni, I had to keep pinching myself that this was "real" and not a dream. Being a new person to Pan Pastels, I was a little nervous about using them and spent a whole evening researching how to use them properly. I wanted to make sure that when I use Pan Pastels, I can then reflect their beauty properly as they are indeed the most creamy, vibrant, versatile product.

I am also a lucky person have the complete Christmas stamp range from Premium Craft Brands and I am thoroughly enjoying using them as they can be used in a modern setting or a vintage setting. So I have made a Christmas card for this week challenge (found here) using the Perfect Poinsettia as my focus ...

I have used Melissa Francis papers and lightly chalked the edges using a mixture of Magenta and Copper pan pastels to create the main basis of my card. The central border was embossed with the long 12" barok border mask and then highlighted with the same pan pastels, finished with 2 different ribbons for added texture.

I stamped the poinsettia 3 times on to a heavy weight vellum using a Versamark pad, embossed with clear embossing powder. The poinsettia has then been coloured with a mixture of the Magenta and Copper pan pastels and some Mahogany Distress Ink. It was finally finished by highlighting the veins with some soft silver pan pastel for added shine. The leaves were stamped on to the same decorative paper with yellow green pan pastel (mixed with water) ..... must point out that I didn't wet the actual pan pastel but rubbed some of the colour on to my mat and mixed with water that way .... and then coloured in the leaves using yellow green, deep green and soft gold pan pastels.

Now .... my eureka moment! I don't know about you but I have oodles and oodles of was paper cut outs from when I have cut intricate dies. I have been saving them as they are too beautiful to throw away and I knew one day I would find a use for them. Well so happy that this project was my "voyage of discovery". I have covered one of the wax paper dies shapes with a mixture of the magenta and copper pan pastels, gave it a buff with a tissue and voila, I now have a delicate, translucent die cut shape. I was soooooo happy that it worked because it was just the soft background I wanted.

I finished my card with some vintage style brads and chipboard buttons .... and .... glitter! I struggle using glitter but have been ubber brave and added some highlights here and there.
