Colouring and stamping with pan pastels

Edited to add: this post is showing as of Mondays date but was definitely posted today, Tuesday. Not sure why and after battling blogger for too long, I have given in ...

I'm a wee bit late for my Pan Pastels Challenge project as my first idea is just not finished ... well it is 75% finished but I just can't decide on what to add for those finishing touches. I am frustrating myself immensely so have decided to walk away and come back to it at a later date.

So not to let my teamies down, I quickly rustled up this simple card using Sheena Douglas poppy stamps ...

I have coloured them vibrant orange/yellow to represent spring rather than their normal red and I think it totally changes their look; not at all poppy-like.

I stamped with Perfect Medium and then went over the lines with orange pan pastel. Before colouring the images, I carefully rubbed away any excess pan pastel so that I was left with white(ish) petals. Next using orange, pearlescent orange and pearlescent yellow, I coloured the flowers using a soft paint brush. Unfortunately my photos do not show the pearlescent shimmer these pan pastels give to your project.

The flowers were layered to create a bit of depth and finished with button centres. I did exactly the same with the leaves using chromium oxide green and green pearlescent. I also cut out and layered the leaves to give the illusion of depth/growth.

The sentiments are from a StampIn Up set, Precious Butterflies which have been raised with 3D foam pads. A further button has been added to the lower sentiment. The longest part about creating this card was the cutting out.

Would like to say that Spring has arrived here but not much evidence of bright flowers in bloom. Fingers crossed it will arrive soon but then again, we have a Bank Holiday weekend looming in the UK .....

I do that with a lot of cards, come back to them later. In fact I have a bag of them and when I go to create I start with that bag to see if today is the day that one of them will be finished. Sometimes I get on roll finishing those cards and sometimes they sit there for months. You card is beautiful. I'm really into yellow right now and I love how you used it in your card. Thank you for joining us last week at Through The Craft Room Door Our new challenge starts today and I hope you will join us.
