Design seeds and pan pastels
Have you ever visited the Design Seeds site? If not, pop over as you will be blown away at the colour palates they create as a starting point for your creativity. My only problem with the site is that there are sooooo many inspirational colour palates I would love to use, I can never then just choose one!
For my project this week over on PAB Pan Pastel Challenges, I have used the following colour palate for no other reason than it really inspired me because of the warmth and the depth of the colours. The colour palate is called "Geode Bright".
I decided to decorate an MDF box that I have had for eons. I haven't decorated it until now as didn't know what it's end purpose was to be and I find that I need to know that, to help me then "create" something. Are you the same? Do yo have to have a purpose for the object before you begin? It only happens to me for 3D projects but for card making, I can just make a card because I want to, not necessarily for a theme ..... weird I suppose!
I primed the box with gesso first and then using Maimeri modelling paste and the large Chrysanthemum stencil, created a really thick, rough raised layer which I made sure went up and over the edges. I then had fun with my pan pastels colouring first with Yellow Ochre tint.
To add depth and warmth, I have then added metallic Soft Gold, Diarylide Yellow Ochre and Raw Umber. No precise method here other than, slap it on here and slap it on there!
Next the decoration of the box lid and I have used various stamped images and die cuts, all chosen to remind me to write about and/or scrap my holiday travels. All images have been aged with my pan pastels and then highlighted with metallic soft gold or metallic rich gold pan pastels.
I have decorated the sides too starting with some Teresa Collins paper (which I have distressed and aged), adding butterfly die cuts (Tim Holtz alterations) and 7 Gypsies stickers.
The 7 Gypsies word stickers you see around the outside are all travel inspired or are travel related quotes which I thought would help me when I come to write up/scrap some of my journeys.
On the butterflies. I have embossed them with the Chrysanthemum stencil to match the top and then aged them in places. Please do not panic about the white paint you can still see, as I have another plan for decorating the inside of the box!
Phew .... thinks that's all and never know if you should show more or less photos. I probably do more as sometimes it is easier to show you what I mean, rather than yo having to try and translate what I have written ... lol.
Before I go and tackle some domestic chores (yawn), can I remind you about 2 things:
1] Pop over to fellow my PP Teamie, Claire, who has written a brilliant tutorial on how to create clouds with pan pastels. You can find her blog HERE..
2] My Polka Doodles 5th birthday candy is still running and you have the chance to win one of the Work and Play Cd's and all the details are HERE. You can even download a free digi image and paper pack too!
Definitely think that's it everyone as by now, your eyes probabaly need a rest. Many thanks for popping over as love to read your comments and suggestions and this evening I am locking myself away to have a blog rummage session (to catch up with you all) and maybe a little time on Pinterest too.
Have a greta Sunday,
Lou

Not sure why I took these photos at such a jaunty angle but there was obviously a reason at the time of taking, which I can't remember now ... ! The stickers you see are from 7 Gypsies and the typewriter is a Tim Holtz alterations die from sizzex. Even my buttons were given the pan pastel treatment.
