Upcycling a set of drawers - Lemonade Fizz
Arrived in Ireland safe and sound but we've decided today that we will have a "chill" day and just mooch around doing a bit of this and maybe a bit of the that and who knows, some of the other ... Spoke to the lads and the house, from what I can gather, is still standing and the dog has been fed and walked. Things are definitely on the up and the stress-o-meter on calm mode. However I can image the stress-o-meter will be on MAX tomorrow as A' Level results day for Aaron .... but I know my boy will be "grand".
Whilst having a cathartic clear out recently, I discovered these drawers and whilst I know in my heart they really should be recycled (as in go in recycle bin), the crafter in me was shouting loudly "NO ....... !" They were buckled, creased, torn in places and made from card, so not the sturdiest of drawers ...
As you can imagine, the crafting side won and I began by measuring the drawer fronts and cutting 3 pieces of card, slightly smaller than the drawer front. Next the card was covered in light blue Viva Decor chalky paint but slapped on in a hap hazard way.
Carefully placing the 3 pieces together, securing with low tack tape, gave me a larger area to "play with" ...
Using a black archival ink pad, I began layering up my floral images, using Lemonade Fizz Soup Stamps from Polka Doodles ...
... and once I was happy, I began painting the images with my Viva Decor chalky paints: chalk white, light & dark green. The hearts were coloured with fired brick distress marker.
Once dry, the decorated pieces were stuck to the front of each drawer. Brass handles were added as a finishing touch and also much needed as there was no other way to open the drawers ...!
All done but now I need to find a space to put them and prove to the family that saving the drawers was the right thing to do ...!
