Handmade photo frame from chipboard using Polkadoodles Tropical Oceans & Tropical Underworld to decorate

Well a huge chunk of time has flown by in its supersonic jet, since I last posted. Loads happening here and unfortunately I just did not have enough hours to fit in all that I wanted to do. This meant my blog, which I do "lurve", was a little neglected. Fingers crossed, normal service has resumed ...!

The theme over at Polka Doodle Challenges is "Anything Goes" and as I am still in summer holiday mode, I just can't quite yet put my Tropical Underworld and Tropical Oceans soup stamp sets away. I know autumn is fast approaching but for me, I'm still not ready to put these stamps away. Using the stamps and a paper from the matching CD, I created a rowing boat picture frame ...

I began by creating an arch shape. The back panel would be the whole shape, the middle panel would have the inner cut away leaving a frame and finally the front panel would be cut to look as if you were looking down on to a rowing boat. (See photo below)

As you can see, I only covered the back and front panels with the wood effect paper from the CD. I aged all the edges with Walnut Stain distress ink. Next placing the middle frame panel on top of the base panel, I drew around the bottom, right hand side and half way down the left hand side. Using a craft knife, I cut these lines out and crease. (See photo below).

Next, I pulled out the Tropical Oceans an Tropical Underworld stamp sets and began stamping way. I have coloured all my images with distress inks and think I may have gone a little over board ...!

Now to begin creating my frame. Firstly glue a piece of acetate to back of the front panel (to protect the photo) and then begin gluing and layering the frame pieces together.

Now to add all my stamped images ... I wanted to make a fishing net but even after a good rummage in several boxes, couldn't find anything suitable ... that is until I remembered my Halloween box! Sure enough there was some black spider netting. I added a tag to the top of the netting and anchored it in place.

The faffing part now began as I decided which images I would use to decorate the bottom of my frame ...

... and because I just adore this stamp, I had to include him somewhere on my frame ...

JUST A TIP ... after stamping and colouring all your images, emboss them with a good layer of clear embossing powder. This will protect the images from every day wear and tear.

Here is a side view of my frame showing the opening. Do you spot what else I have done?

To hide all the layers and gluing, I have added an edging using a strip of cut down hessian ribbon. As the hessian will begin to fray over time, I covered the edge in a good layer of mod podge. I now have 3 different versions of this frame as I really enjoyed myself and think they might become part of a Christmas present. Not going to say whom as that would spoil the surpirse.
