Moussed up picture frame ...

I am relatively 'new' to the Nuvo embellishment mousse but when I received mine from Tonic Studios I just had to play but starting out in small steps to get a feel for the product and also for the colours. Sadly my photographic skills do not clearly show how rich in pigment the mousses are and what a wonderful shimmer & shine they have too.

At this point should say that this is a rather photo heavy post, so grab a beverage - mines a black coffee, no sugar please - and let's begin ...

So what did I do? I grabbed some stampbord shapes and mount board decided to create a picture frame ...

I began by choosing how to place my stampbord pieces and then colouring them with 3 different mousses: Old Navy, Pacific Teal & Cornflower Blue. I used a dry paintbrush to add the colour as wanted to create a mottled effect. Remember to also colour the outside edges of your stampbord as these will be on display too!

Once happy with the layout, I stuck the stampbord pieces to mountboard trimming away 3 of the edges but leaving the top. This lust helps me move the frame around to decorate whilst the glue 'goes off' properly. Next it was stamping time ... using the following stamps from the Delicate Detail collection, I began creating my decoration: Floral Tag, Floral Flourish & Vine Flourish.

I've added highlights using Pure Platinum embellishment mousse and coloured the leaf elements with Citrus Green & Seaspray Green ... or even a bit of both! I painted these parts adding the teeny, tiniest bit of water to the mousse. Just couldn't leave the foliage blue ...!

Now to have a little more fun with my scrapper tools ... joy of joys. With the tools I went over each of the stamped designs adding defined highlights to make the images 'pop' even more. I've even gone around the outside edge of the frame to tie all the detail in and hopefully, focus your eyes on to the stamped images.

Now that I've completed all the designs, I cut away the excess mountbord from the top and also from the centre to create the frame.

Using a piece of hardboard, I drew around the frame - inside and out - added a further 1cm allowance on all sides. Using a very, very, very sharp craft knife, I cut away the excess hardboard but only cut away 3 of the sides on the inside frame: both sides and top. For the bottom part, using a bradle I crated a crease line and gently, in fact very gently and slowly, manipulated the hardboard to make a hinge.

Using the same colours of mousses that I had used on my stampbord, I coloured the hardboard on both sides. In the photo below, you will be able to see how I cut the inner frame to create the hinge. Although it does look very creased here, don't panic, a little bit of sanding and further mousse made for a very smooth and efficient opening.

Now to stick the hardboard to the stampbord frame ... but before you do that ... add your opening/closing mechanism, (see below). You can also see in the photo below, why I added the extra 1cm allowance to the hardboard; it creates a place to safely add acetate (to protect picture/photo) and also a place to safely anchor your picture/photo. Quickly must add that I did paint the inside part with the mousses so everything co-ordinated but forgot to take a photo ... sorry ...

I used heavy duty glue to adhere the two pieces together and whilst trying extra pressure added with bulldog clips.

Once dry, add your acetate square to the inside of the opening and a piece of white card to the flap (see below) ...

All completed and actually quite chuffed with how the frame came out. I want to make another one using the mandala stamps from the Delicate Detail collection but next time using brighter, opulent colour scheme.

The photos above and below are a close up of the stamped details on the picture frame. Click on the photos to make them larger for a better 'look see'.

Here's another photo of my finished frame and apologies for the glare ... that'll be the acetate. If you look carefully you might even see me trying to take a photo of the frame ... 😁

Phew ... thanks for reading all the way to the end as it is a rather photo heavy post. Please do share with me how you have used the Nuvo embellishment mousses on your projects - in comments section below - so I can pop over and see how the mousse inspired you.

Right back to the paint brushes ... sadly the wall painting type,

Lou

That's so beautiful - the colours are really pretty, and I just love the patchwork effect of all the flourishes and florals. The layering with the larger frame really takes it to the next level with fantastic dimension. Lovely!
