Spellbinders 3D shading stamps ... plus blog candy

Daily, for the next week, I am having a "Christmas with Spellbinders" event and as part of this event, I am offering blog candy - a wonderful Christmas themed Die D-Lites die set - which I will ship world wide. You can check out my blog candy post HERE for all the details. However before you rush off, my first project is just below ...

Recently when choosing some items over at Spellbinders to use in my Spellblogger projects, I decided that I would really like to use the 3D shading stamps and chose a selection from the Christmas range. I was really intrigued as to how these would really work and also whether I would only be able to do monochromatic pieces with them ... but boy oh boy, how wrong was I! They are just fantastic to use and very, very versatile. If you are in doubt, please do not be as you will love playing with the designs as much as I have.

For my first project I have used Christmas Kitten plus Holly & Berries ...

I began by stamping the adorable kitten image in grey. Masking off the image, I added a border of holly leaves. All were then coloured with my Aqua Flow watercolour pens. I then inked around the edges to give a more 'aged' feel to my project.

After doing this, I felt the piece looked unbalanced so created a holly border in the opposite corner, colouring and ageing it the same as before. Once finished, the white card I had used, still felt 'too white' so I lightly added vintage photo distress ink with light paint splatters in co-ordinating colours.

I've mounted my topper on to different, but complimentary coloured glitter card and then on to my card base. Again another 'light bulb moment' hit me and before I glued everything in to place, I decided to stamp the holly leaves around the edge of my card base - which I think was just the perfect finishing touch.

You can check out the stamps I used below and get a better view of them in the Spellbinders shop ...
