I'm tuned in to you - Tonic Studios NEW musix dies

I had a real blast creating my musical card with the new Spanish Guitar die, as I decided to get a little bit messy with the background ...

I wanted to create a washed background using my Nuvo Aqua Flow pens and after doing so, felt it was a little too vibrant and just didn't go with the idea I had floating around in my head. Rather than bin and start again, out came a Tonic stencil, (Fancy Fretwork), to add some random texture - using Nuvo Peony Pink embellishment mousse - which then added that pretty vibe I was after. Rather than waste the mousse, (which was left over on the stencil), I spritzed, removing this excess on to a piece of Craft Perfect super smooth white card.

The flourish details on the corners of the back ground have been made by cutting the 'Xylophone Swish' die in half, adding to the edges so that the flourish pieces are the main focus.

I cut the outline of the 'Spanish Guitar' die out of white card, coloured with Nuvo gilding flakes in gold & copper. I repeated the process but cutting the design from my 'spritzed, left-over mousse' background. After adding the gilded outline layer to the backing piece, I then paper pieced the guitar using the 'spritzed, left-over mousse' background - oh my, I do hope that makes sense!

Before adding my guitar to my card, I die cut one of the beautiful corners - Moroccan Orchard - adding to the lower corner, placing the decorated guitar on the top. As a finishing touch, I added two butterflies to balance my design - Wings & Things, Monarch & Princess Wings dies

Oh my the decisions I faffed with over the sentiment was probably on the extreme side. I stamped a sentiment but it didn't fit well, subsequently die cutting a sentiment which didn't go with the overall feel of my card and was about to give up with any sentiment at all, when I remembered I had alphabet dies, so could create my own - which I did using the Welsh Gold Craft Perfect glitter card.

It was great fun mixing the messy bits with the traditional card making process and something I think I must do more of. Do you have a favourite way to create backgrounds? Please share your ideas as I love how crafters inspire each other to continue all our crafty journeys.
