Dad ... celebrate your day - using Tonic Studios magazine #08 stamps & dies

It was a stamping kinda day yesterday and I was inspired by the sudden burst of recent sunshine we have been having here and thought I'd be organised and get ahead with my Father's Day cards. I'm a lucky so & so am regularly feature in the Tonic Studios quarterly magazine but am also a little naughty because after making my commission cards, I rarely use the goodies included. Not because they aren't any good, it's normally because we make so far in advance, I sadly forget that they are in my crafty stash.

Well today was the day that this changed. I knew what style of card I wanted to make and the stamps, plus dies from Tonic Studios magazine #08 were perfect for the job ...

I began by using the largest circle die from the extra bonus die set - Butterfly Mosaic - sold via Create & Craft TV to create my card base and then stamped my wave design using one of the decorative stamps and Nuvo Diamond Hybrid Ink in Lagoona Bay. This stamp was originally designed to act as an edging decoration around a circle but when stamped in different directions, looked like waves in the sea. Using Aqua Splash aqua flow pen, I water coloured my sea design.

Next I die cut different sized circles from white card and on two of them, stamped my designs. On one I have used the same border stamp to create a sun and sea background: again coloured with aqua flow pens in Spiced Ginger, Lemon Zest & Aqua Splash.

On the smaller circle, I stamped the sun ray circular design and water coloured with the same aqua flow pens, to keep the colour co-ordination.

On my last circle, I die cut a frame and then added extra decoration using one of the decoration dies from the Rose & Daffodil Stained Glass Window die set, which is included in the magazine. I have coloured the frame, plus some of the 'waste' with Spiced Ginger & Lemon Zest aqua flow pens.

Now on to my favourite part, the assembly or in my case, faffing about with the elements! I layered the circles in a cascading fashion so you could see enough of each element and also the sea background.

To tie the details together, I have stamped three boats, water coloured with aqua flows, cutting them out and adding to the card. To give the illusion that they are 'bobbing about', I stamped more of the border stamp, cutting these out and adding near to the boats.

The longest part of making the card was adding the sentiment because I simply couldn't decide how I wanted to add it to my card. Eventually I settled on one of the sentiments from the stamp set, cutting in to flag/pennant designs, adding to each boat. The 'DAD' part is from an old Tonic Studios alphabet die set called Clarice and because it can be layered in so many different ways, it was the perfect choice.

My finishing touch was using Nuvo Gloss Drops in White, to add sea foam and give a little movement to my ocean. A few random Nuvo diamond sequins were also added.

This is wonderful. I picked up the magazine from work so no extra dies. I've made 7 cards from the papers/stamps/dies for my son to sell at his table top sale in aid of Save the Elephant's but I think I'll have to give this one a go too. Hugs
