Colouring stamped images with Nuvo Shimmer Powders - beautiful water colour effects
Happy Sunday everyone.Hope you are well especially in these strange times. I've decided to try something new whilst "at home" & some how, in a moment of weakness, Aaron has convinced me to join in with him on his NEW walk, run, walk, run app exercise thing. Oh my are my legs killing me! Apparently we can choose a different motivational voice to help us along each day ... not sure I was seeing them as motivational ...!
Anyways, on to crafting. This week I dusted off my Lyra Rembrandt pencils to do some colouring which I have not done for a very long time. It was slow going but I enjoyed myself getting lost in the process. This got me thinking, what else haven't I used to colour with? Bingo, Nuvo Shimmer Powders. Mixing palate, water, powders & stamps to the ready & before I knew it, I made the card below ...
MY CARD
I actually began by stamping the images - Tonic Studios Garden Party clear stamps - in to one corner & using my stitched rectangle layering dies, cut myself a frame. I cut around the floral images first with a craft knife & slid the die underneath to create my aperture.
Next on to the colouring. I've kept to a simple colour palate beginning by adding a background colour first. I let this dry & then added another layer to create darker places. When I mounted the finished floral frame on to my card base, it looked "naff" to say the least. What to do next?
I was a wee bit disappointed with myself then. It felt like one of those "run before you can walk" moments. Determined not just to bag the card up & visit it another day, I decided to stamp some more of the same images directly on to my card base - Craft Perfect 5" x 7" card blank
I've coloured them identically the same as before. If you look in photo above, you can see the wonderful multi-coloured shimmer/glittery effect the powders give your images.
Using 3D foam pads on my floral frame, I added it to my card base. Phew! It now looked like I had a complete picture. I have finished off my card with a simple " me to you" sentiment strip die cut in white card.
NUVO SHIMMER POWDERS
There are 14 beautiful colours in the Nuvo Shimmer Powders range and each gives a unique "burst" of colour, especially when used to create backgrounds. However when you water colour with them, they take on a new "vibe" which is beautiful.
You can see the full range HERE.
If you already have Nuvo Shimmer Powders, would love to know how you use yours. Please do share as I think it's wonderful to learn new techniques from each other. Gonna also give a shout out to the mega talented Bibi Cameron, who has some excellent tutorials about how to get the most from your shimmer powders.
If you are a new visitor to my blog, would love it if you became a follower - see top of my blog. I also have a YouTube channel & can be found on Instagram too. All my links can be found in my About Me page at the top of my blog.
Many thanks for stopping by today & hope to see you again soon.
Take care & be safe,
Lou
