How to use rice paper in crafts - idea #1 - Is it an art journal or scrapbook page?

Ciao Bella have a beautiful range called "Modern Times" which has a theatre, film, cinema vibe to it. When I received mine and flicked through all the designs, it was one of those "light bulb" moments as to what I wanted to create first.

I've grabbed some photos of my youngest lad from way back when, and created an art journal come scrapbook page in my huge Dina Wakley journal. I suppose it's a hybrid of two different crafts ...

ART JOURNAL MEETS SCRAPBOOK PAGES

In the collection you also get the most cool rice paper designs which I've used  as a starting point for my background.  I added layers of texture paste, gesso and gloss sprays but not too much as didn't want to totally hide the beautiful rice papers.

After deciding where I wanted to place my photos - these are different ones of Aaron from his drama days at school - & picking how to mat/layer them, I could then start adding "everything" else in ...!

Ciao Bella's collections always include a super cool A4 Creative Pad which is rammed full of additional images & paper designs. I've used lots of the toppers, cutting away some of the images & collaging them to my pages.

The directors chair image below is actually part of the rice paper background & have used it as the background to this photo of Aaron - he was playing "a baddie" but his pose & "The End" sign worked a treat together.

All the extra elements you get in the A4 Creative Pad, I feel, are perfect to add as either extra decoration or wording. This photo of Aaron, although a different vibe, still works with the designs.

One of the backing papers, is full of vintage effect film strips & I have cut these out to create an area to draw your eye to this photo. A few film/cinema themed embellishments around the photo & it's quickly framed but at the same time, fits in with the rest of my pages.

Below is a look at both pages & you can see how the modern colours of the backgrounds work perfectly with the more vintage style embellishments. I just love how they do, which then makes the creating process easy.

Will share my other projects with this collection in another post & they look completely different to this double page spread. As I said earlier. this collection is so versatile in the direction you want to take it eg: art journal, scrapbooking, card making etc etc

Do you have a favourite Ciao Bella Collection? Would love to know what it is and also what you've made. Drop me a comment below.

Until next time. Take care & happy crafting,
