Raindow Gelli print backgrounds for mixed media cards - Polkadoodles stamps

It's September printing Challenge time over at Gelli Arts & the prompts were linked to the letters of the alphabet. One of the letters I chose was "V" with a theme of "V for vertical". As I knew what stamps I wanted to use, it meant I also had my colour ideas - rainbow.

After printing my backgrounds, I turned them in to quick, pretty mixed media style cards using Polkadoodles Weirdre stamp collection.

YouTube video, product links & discount code are below.

Printing the backgrounds

Using colours from the rainbow & DecoArt acrylic paints, I created a mix of backgrounds; some plain & some with stencil detailing. I also printed on to smooth white card, leather effect card & Gelli Arts parchment paper.

I created myself some additional matting layers with the Gelli Arts small printing plates lifting the designs straight from my 7" x 5" plate on to smaller pieces of card.

After I had finished printing, it was stamping time. I've stamped on to some of the backgrounds to create additional decorative embellishments but stamped the main Weirdre characters on to Ecoline print paper as I knew I wanted to water colour them.

You can see how I created the background in greater detail in my YouTube video (see below)

Weirdre Catch Your Own Rainbow

How cool is this image 💖 It can be coloured up in so many ways & doesn't have to be used for a mixed media style card. I've coloured Weirdre with Ecoline waterbrush pens adding extra details with a selection of Sakura gellyroll pens. As you can see if the photo, I used some of my backgrounds to stamp the accessory images on to, cutting them out & using as added ebellishments.

Before you throw away any of your gelli prints that don't sing to you, stamp some images on them, cut them out & suddenly they take on a whole new vibe.

Weirdre Just Create

Another super cool Weirdre image & one I have used many times in my art journals as her pose can be saying or showing lots of different things. Again I've used Ecoline pens with added gellyroll highlights/detailing.

The main panel on this card was created using one of the Gelli Arts mini plates, so in essence could be a ghost or mop-up print ...?

Weirdre Angel Wings

Another cool Weirdre stamp which, like the others can be used in so many ways. Don't like the wings, remove them. Place her on a butterfly to make more fairy like. Add something to her hands to look as if she's holding something eg: basket, flowers etc. In fact last year, I used her on my Christmas cards as loved how it gave such a querky vibe.

Ohhh looking at her now at this angle, I've never thought of adding another bun to the other side of her head or even cutting the bun away and placing on the top of her head! Must try those ideas out. Can you now see the versatility of these images ... 💖

YouTube videos

Over on my YouTube channel I have 2 videos: one shorter, condensed version which does not show all the stages & full version of all the steps.. .

The full version shows printing process, how I coloured all the stamped images & added extra details etc plus making my cards

Shorter version shows printing process & making the cards with the prints.

Why two videos? When I asked for feedback a while back, it was suggested that I give crafters the option of  different ways to see my creative process, so that's what I've done this time. Do you think it's a good idea?

Do you gelli plate regularly? What ideas would you like to see created on the gelli plate? Would love your feedback.

Until next time,

Lou
