Create quick & easy backgrounds with Ecoline water colour inks + stencils
I am a big fan of water colour inks as they are just fabulous mediums to create with:
- to make quick vibrant backgrounds,
- use directly as watercolours,
- add to spritzers to create your own sprays
- make bespoke watercolour inks of our own
Sharing a video today showing a way to use the Ecoline watercolour inks with The Crafters Workshop (TCW) stencils to create free flowing backgrounds. Further down my post, I also share three handmade cards using some of the backgrounds.
YouTube video tutorial
I appreciate that this is a longer video than I would normally create, so I have listed the different time slots below, so you can skip to the part that most interests you.
Talking about the inks - 0:01 to 3:05
Using the inks with stencils - 3:41 to 18:36
Adding finishing touches - idea 1 - 18:37 to 27:15
- idea 2 - 27:17 to 33:15
- idea 3 -33:30 to 36:47
Backgrounds ideas
Sharing some of the photos of the backgrounds I created in the video. I have mainly used Ecoline water colour paper but also experimented with other card stock too.
Whilst the Ecoline Liquid Watercolour inks were still out, I couldn't resist but play some more, still using the same technique shown in my video.
Do we get the same effects using different stencils?
For the backgrounds below, I used a TCW mask instead of a stencil. I also changed the colours I used inspired by the mask design. I'm in love with how they came out. I'm not sure why I did not take another print as I have done before. Instead I just took a print of the ink left on the mask.
Don't forget the mop up pieces!
Using the pipette from several of the colours, I just let the Ecoline Liquid Watercolour ink dribble down & do it's own thing. Fab, quick way to create a colourful background and even more of a bonus, as using up one of my mop up pieces too!
Card ideas
I've taken a few of the backgrounds and turned them in to simple cards because for once, I wanted the backgrounds to be the focus, not the stamped elements. We put all the effort in to our background designs & I think do not celebrate that enough at times.
Until next time,
xxx
