How to use rice papers in crafts - idea #3 - Mixed media ideas with rice papers & paper kits from Ciao Bella Paper

Recently I made a YouTube video showing different way to use rice papers with a range of backgrounds and not just on white. I thought I'd share how I put the ideas in to practice on these beautiful Creativ Wooden House boxes .

I have used rice papers and papers from Ciao Bella Sign of The Times Collection.

Below is the video I created that sparked all the ideas I wanted to use with my Creativ Wooden House boxes.

Box idea #1

I covered the box in different colours of blue, yellow and gold acrylic paint before applying my rice paper. I have taken different elements from the Ciao Bella Sign of The Times Collection rice papers and paper kits, layered on top of each other.

I adore how it makes some of the elements stand out and other recede in to the background.

On the roof part, I also added layers of corrugated card as well before adding the rice paper on top. Finally added some embossing powder as extra texture.

I'm hoping this photo shows the mix of yellow and gold under paint layers, how they bring elements to life. I finished off the house with metal embellishments and card toppers.

Box idea #2

For this box, I covered it first in a mix of cadmium yellow & tangerine. When dry I added a thin coat of a white pearl effect acrylic paint on top.

I have used the rice as whole sheets on this box, taking away any excess. I wanted the designs to stand out as themselves.

My main decoration has been from the different Ciao Bella Sign of The Times Collection paper kits. These collections have lots of toppers & ephemera pieces.

As you can see from the inside of the box, I have layered all the paper pieces up and then added to the rice paper backing.

Sticking to the same idea of layers of coloured paint, I choose a warm lime green & sky blue as my base layer. Next I added layered pieces of rice paper but left areas of the paint visible.

As with Box #2, I have mixed elements of both the rice paper and also topper/ephemera pieces from Ciao Bella Sign of The Times Collection

Box idea #3

Whilst looking for extra embellishments, I found a box of wonderful metal treasure pieces - an aladins cave of trinkets. I was going to colour then to match but in the end, left them as think they go with the eclectic feel.

The inside of the box shows how everything does work together even if it was not intended that way!

Next was the random part ... finding different feet or objects that my boxes could stand on. I had great fun trying out lots of different things but still to this day, haven't decided which to use!
