Collage art journal pages - creating without purpose - YouTube video + step by step photos

My "for me" crafting where I completely zone out and go in to my own world, is doing collage projects. These could be for cards, art journals, mixed media pieces ... just having fun collaging.

Sharing a double page on my GelliArts Journal where I've used my gel prints, with found treasures, to create the backgrounds. I did do these pages a while ago but completely forgot about the matching blog post 🙈🙉🙊

She held on to her hat ...

I love creating for no other reason than making something to take me away from all the pressures around me. No agenda, just going with the flow. This is exactly what I did with these two pages. I grabbed my GelliArts journal, stencils and frou frou ...

... . plus a whole host of unused gel prints - I am truly determined to use more of my prints in my projects going forward. However some are just too cool to be used and I can't bring myself to use them, yet 😂

After selecting the prints I wanted to use, I chopped them up in to different sizes. I want to use the prints to create my first background layer.

Using these prints I added them to my journal pages mixing up the shapes and colours. I then added some old book pages as a complete contrast.

Using GelliArts stencils with acrylic paint, I added a few extra textural layers in similar colour tones. I may have over cooked this stage ...!

Right have to own up and say that at this point it looks like a "hot mess". There was just too much on the page all looking the same. I needed to add another colour(s) but did not want to use paint or ink, so used some washi tape from my stash.

Still looking overly busy so I grabbed my 3" x 5" gel plate and added a focal area in white acrylic paint on each page. To me, it calmed everything down a touch but I still had not lost all those layers.

Now to really let lose and just have some fun! I have lots of old rub-ons that really don't work ie: only part of the images come away and for me, these are simply perfect for collage type creations.

Once I was happy adding a bit of this, a bit more of that and some extra bits for good measure, I finished by choosing some sentiments that i thought went with the free flowing of the design itself.

I'm leaving the pages as is but think that they need a focal image but as I can't decide what that should be, I will revisit the pages on another day.

Finished pages (for now)!

YouTube video

This original video was made for GelliArts as I am part of their GelliArts Artist Team but my plan was always to create step by step stages using photos. I can now tick that off my "to do list" ... now to conquer the other items!

I hope both my video and blog post inspire you to grab your stash and create for no other reason than just to unwind, switch off and go with the flow.

Many thanks for popping by today and please do share with me your collage projectss. I adore how we can each inspire one another.
