Let's create with Craft Artist Pearl Fusion Ink Pads

You know when you see a crafty product and your mind goes in to over drive with ideas; this happened to me when I saw John Lockwood demo his new Craft Artist Pearl Fusion ink pads. Ordered them straight away and when they arrived knew what I wanted to try out first. I ended up having a day full of creative fun.

I made a YouTube video showing off the projects as was not sure my photos were really picking up all the pearl effects. Link to the video is below.

YouTube video

Let me start by saying that this video is a little weird compared to my normal videos 😅 I really wanted to show off how the Craft Artist Pearl Fusion inks looked on my projects so did a bit of everything to be able to show you all.

Project idea #1

When I saw John's demo and the different ideas Sam had come up with, I just saw all the possibilities the Craft Artist Pearl Fusion Inks would have on a gel plate or gel plate prints. I created a quick background using acrylic paint and some Shady Design stencils

As the Pearl Fusion Inks are a mix of pigment & mica, I really wanted to test them on the background. I stamped out my mandala designs - using my Shady Designs A Bit On The Side stamps - and then added colour using the inks and water!

The coverage was ace. I can see the paint through some parts and it's opaque through others. The contrast between the matt effect from the acrylic paint and the pearl effect from the Pearl Fusion Inks, gives a really cool layering effect.

I was even  happier when I still could use my Sakura micron pens & Sakura white gel pen on top of all these layers
too.

Project idea #2

Tried acrylic paints, now on to oxides! I made a background using the oxide inks - in fact I made 2 as couldn't decide. I added a stencil layer using the Pearl Fusion Hansa Yellow and pulled this straight away. Oh my ... it gave a real gold pearl effect on top of the oxide inks.

Next, I added more stencil detailing trying to keep to each colour family. I added the different colour inks to my gel plate using a Shady Designs stencil but this time, lifted with Pretty Gets Gritty clear gesso.

What a difference! The pigment side of the inks came through more than the pearl effect. What a gorgeous way to add layering details. In some places, the colours added a shadow effect and in others, really stood out.

Strangely, it also appeared to make my first layer of stenciling with the Hansa yellow, stand out even more! I finished by adding a little extra layering using a white gel pen - as you do 😅

Project idea #3

This is an A3 project on a pop up piece that has sprays, stains and paints on. Card was originally white but now has tinges of different colours. For this idea, I have used the inks to stamp and colour with.

I created my patterns with my Shady Designs A Bit On The Side stamp collection and let the ink dry. Being pigment, this didn't take too long at all. Once dry I began water colouring in the stamped images. The crispness of the outlines was still there and I now had the colour with pearl effect.

I also coloured my images with lots of different Craft Artist Pearl Fusion ink colours and the water colouring did not take away from the outline details (I hope). Ohhhh, photo above also shows the layers the stamping went on too.

I finished by adding some doodling through my Boxed In stencil and added a few flowers from my Oval Frame It stamp sets. This piece will have a photo added once Steve & I can decide which one.

I had a blast just going in to my creative zone, playing & creating plus mixing up craft products too. It was so liberating just going with the ideas in my head and seeing where they would take me. I really should do this more often and now need to make sure that I start having more crafting days for me.

Thank you ever so much if you got through to the bottom - it is really appreciated. I hope my blog post also shows that I'm a crafter at heart and like you, am seduced by new craft products. If you listen to my husband, he says I way too easily persuaded - what a cheek 😂😆

Take care everyone and see you all soon,

Lou
