How can art journaling help with card making?

  • It can help you come up with new ideas for cards. When you're art journaling, you're free to express yourself in any way you want as there are no rules per say.
  • Can help you come up with new and innovative ideas for cards. Mixing colours, using inks or sprays, adding texture and because you are experimenting, nothing is wrong.
  • When you're art journaling, you can focus on the process of creating, rather than on the end result
  • You might use art journaling to come up with new card designs. For example, you might experiment with different techniques, such as collage or stamping, to see how they could be used to create unique and eye-catching cards.
  • It can help you build your confidence. When you're art journaling, you're constantly experimenting and trying new things. This can help you to build your confidence in your own abilities. As you become more confident in your skills, you'll be more likely to take risks with your card making, which can lead to even more creative and beautiful cards.

How does this work with stamping?

Below are two art journal pages using stamped images from JMC Holiday Collection. I have made quick backgrounds using stencils and this helps to take away the "white space" fear.

A mixed-media art journal page with a vibrant, layered background and a collage of stamped and colored images of cameras, camera film, film strips, flowers and sentiments/quotes

I stamped and coloured lots of different images, grouping them to make mini scenes. I've added sentiments to one page and nothing on the other. These pages gave me a chance to practice colouring with alcohol markers.

The pages don't "flow" when you look at them as a whole but when you split the designs up, suddenly you can see card topper ideas ...

Making these two pages with no other starting idea than to practice my colouring, it let me stamp, colour & cut out not worrying how my finished card may look. From these two pages, I can see up to 6 different card topper ideas.

Using the above ideas, I went off and created one of them into a finished card ...

I think it needs another flower at the bottom right of the sentiment but other than that I'm happy with how it turned out. Us crafters can be our worse critics 😂

Many thanks for your visit today and until next time, take care,
