Beach themed scrapbook pages: How to tell your summer story

How would you tell your summer story? This isn't a style of crafting I do very often but when I do, I always try and pick photographs that are a little bit different. Ones that when I look at, I know the story behind them and can retell straight away.

My beach themed pages were inspired by the photos and also having just the right papers to use to frame them - Ciao Bella Paper Summer Breeze Collection.

Everything I have used can be found at the bottom of this post.

Let's go on a driving holiday ...

This beach themed page is all about seeing my husband wearing his sling and what that entailed for me - we had planned a driving holiday in Ireland. Plus having the 3 lads together, with two of them pulling faces!

I have used lots of different embellishments from Ciao Bella Paper's Summer Breeze Collection to create all my layers, Background was created using paint and a stencil ... and of course the obligatory random paint splatters! To help me pick the embellishments, I used the colours from the photograph

eg: orange - from the stripe on Aaron's t-shirt
stone colours - they were on a pebble beach
blues - from the sky, sea & their clothes.
white - their trainers & waves

Brotherly Love

For this beach themed page, it was all about "mis-communication". I quickly learned with Luke that using the phrase "can you help your brother?" had to have a wee bit more information added. His interpretation of the request and my expectation, did not always match!

The background is very similar to the previous page and this was deliberate as the photos were taken on the same day. Also the embellishments were a little more diverse. Why? I just felt as the photo was not staged, the embellishments shouldn't be either. I kept to the same colour scheme as the previous page but also added in a bit of red - love, action, strength.

Oh the pain ..

I love staging my photos but I really struggled with these beach themed pages and how I should present them. I spent ages taking them on different backgrounds - 7 in total! Narrowed it down to 2 in the end but still not 100% sure of my choices. I really was making this way too complicated.

Then I thought "wouldn't it be cool to using a photo editing programme and go to town on the staging". Again, the photos below are just a tad OTT ...! What do you think?

One thing I did learn from all of this was that I really must print off more of my photos and put them in to real physical albums. They don't always need to be made in to layouts but should be made real and not saved to some cloud no one sees.

Thank you ever so much for popping by today and allowing me to share some of my holiday memories with you all.

Until next time, take care,

Lou
