Gel prints with a Christmas twist: Crafting festive cards with oxide inks
As the festive season approaches, the desire to create personalised and heartfelt gifts / cards / tags / wrapping grows stronger. Gel printing, a unique and versatile technique, offers a delightful way to craft enchanting Christmas cards that reflect your creativity, are completely unique and capture the spirit of the season.
I am part of a YouTube video hop with a group of wonderful creatives from Crafting Together with All Brands (C2WABs) using the theme "Winter Colours". All links are below ...
Oxide inks, are known for their vibrant colours and smooth blending ability. They are the perfect partners for gel printing, allowing you to create wonderful patterns and textures.
Creating a Gel print with oxide inks:
Prepare the plate: Apply a layer of oxide ink(s) to the gel plate, creating a base for your design. Use a brayer to blend the colours together. TOP TIP: if you want each colour to still be obvious, clean your brayer on a scrap piece of card or cloth, after each blend.
Add layers and textures: Using texture stamps or background stamps, begin adding different layers to your backgrounds.
Reveal the design: Carefully lay a card over the gel plate, pressing firmly, but gently, to transfer the design.
Repeat and experiment: Create multiple gel prints until you have all the backgrounds you need. Each gel print will be unique, adding variety to your Christmas card collection.
Once you have your gel prints, begin to make your cards. Use the backgrounds as backgrounds but also die cut & stamp on them to make embellishments to decorate your cards.
