Introducing the Celtic Circle stamp set:

The Shady Designs Celtic Circle stamp set is part of the Celtic Whispers Collection.
I have been blown away by Celtic designs for absolutely ages - read more about this HERE - and wanted to create a stamp set that you can create your own Celtic frames how you wanted them to be. I also wanted it to have, initially, a soft romantic feel but with colour you could change the drama.

A Spectrum of Possibilities:

The starting idea

Taking the main image from Shady Designs Celtic Circle stamp set, stamp twice in each corner. This will be the same design we will use in all 3 cards ...

Background Magic:

  • Colour can create a dramatic impact on the finished look of your card. Taking one idea and just changing the colour, gives the illusion that you have created a completely new design. See examples below ...
  • Sticking to the same colours eg: ink outlines, colouring mediums, for your embellishments or stamped images, also adds to the drama too.
  • Create 2 similar backgrounds at the same time. Use one as your card background & the other for your additional card elements. Everything will truly colour co-ordinate.
  • Don't have time to make a background but still want to take one idea and use different colours? Dig out all your coloured card and use that as your starting point - see examples further down this post.

Embossing for dimension

  • Embossing powders now come in a range of different colours and finishes. However, if you do not have a selection to chose from, use the ink colour of choice and emboss with clear - now you have the look of a coloured embossing powder.
  • Pick complimentary embossing powders that work with your background. For my cards, I have used powders I think compliment:
    • green/blue background + gold,
    • pink background + white,
    • blue/purple background + silver.
  • If you want added drama, choose embossing powder colours that will give you this eg: black (instead of silver), copper (instead of gold), pink (instead of white). This again quickly changes the dynamic of your card.

Idea #1

Main supplies used:

I created a background using Pretty Gets Gritty Attis Explosion Powder and once dry, stamped my design using Shady Designs Celtic Circle stamp set with Versamark. I chose to stamp off the card in to places. I then used WOW Metallic Gold Rich to emboss my outlines.
As in the hints & tips above, I made 2 backgrounds at the same time and stamped and embossed different elements I wanted to use on my card. As these are already coloured, all I needed to do, was just cut them out.
I placed the stamped & embossed images over 2 die cut corners, (Shady Designs Celtic Square die set), & finished with some faux pearls.

Idea #2

Main supplies used:

Again using Pretty Gets Gritty Explosion Powders, I created my backgrounds. This time I have used Cupid Explosion Powder. The stamped design is exactly the same as card idea #1 but I chose to use WOW Opaque Bright White to emboss my outlines.
Again, following the hints & tips above, I made 2 backgrounds at the same time and stamped and embossed different elements I wanted to use on my card. As these are already coloured, all I needed to do, was just cut them out.
I changed how I arranged my finished images to be featured around a sentiment chosen from Shady Designs Celtic Whispers Sentiment collection.

Idea #3

Main supplies used:

As per my previous cards, I used Pretty Gets Gritty Explosion Powders to create my background. I have chosen to use a more dramatic colour and went for Hades Explosion Powder. Again the stamped background is as before but this time I have used WOW Metallic Silver embossing powder.
Again, following the hints & tips above, I made 2 backgrounds at the same time and stamped and embossed different elements I wanted to use on my card. As these are already coloured, all I needed to do, was just cut them out. I did however stamp emboss on plain card too because I wanted to break up the colour to make the finished card not too dark.
My finished stamped embellishments were arranged on a Celtic Whispers Circle die cut and I added a few of the uncoloured pieces in to break up the design.

When time is short or you don't want to make a background?

Below are 3 cards using the Shady Designs Celtic Circle stamp set but instead of making a background, they have been stamped & embossed with gold on to coloured card! Here are the starting ideas ...

All the images have been coloured with the same Tsukineko Delicata inks -

I do hope that I have shown the versatility of the Shady Designs Celtic Circle Stamp Set and the endless creative possibilities unlocked by exploring background colour variations and embossing techniques.
