Add a Pop of Wow! Discover Bibi Cameron's Intense Liquid Colors (project #1)

So, Bibi Cameron has done it again! Alongside Contact Crafts, Bibi has just launched a stunning new range of Intense Liquid Colors and Sparkle Base Paints, and I'm already completely smitten. When Bibi asked if I would love to "play" with the paints, I said yes straight away because I was intrigued to see how they are different to other paints I already use.

I decided to road test the paints in the different ways I craft to see how they would fit in with my crafting style.

First Impressions:

I soon discovered that the  Intense Liquid Colors and Sparkle Base Paints are incredibly vibrant and highly pigmented and very bizarrely, behave as if they were inks! I discovered that they flow smoothly, making them a dream to blend and layer whether direct to paper/card or added to a watery background.

I chose to "play" with the Tuscany Earth Set firstWhy? Because it features a beautiful palette of blues, oranges, yellows, and greens.  There is also an umber & black in the same set, to add further depth to the other colours.

My First "play":

For my first project, I decided to put these paints to the test and create a card using the paints in as many different way as possible. I wanted to see how many other supplies I may need or if I could use the paints as the main supplies.

I started by using one of the stamps from the Happy Mail clear stamps and Versamark to create a background. Whilst still wet, I heat embossed with WOW Ultra Fine Clear embossing powder. Next using the Olive and a blending sponge, I covered the background. I did this in several layers to add intensity in places. The paint blended beautifully, creating a subtle depth and dimension.

To not waste the ink on my mat, I added a little water, used my finger to mix and then tapped onto my background. I also added a few gold splats using the NEW Gold Sparkle.

TOP TIP: get even more out of the inks by adding water to the sponge. Easy way to create light & dark backgrounds.

Now to see if I could stamp with the inks! I added some of the Ocean Blue to a blending sponge and this became my ink (paint0 pad. It worked a treat and none of the colour vibrancy was lost. I did a similar thing with the emerald green and a smaller stamp from the Happy Mail clear stamp set.

Once everything was dry, I made my finished card layering up with 3D foam pads to create height & extra dimension. Have you tried this way of using paints?

Two Looks, One Idea:

I was so inspired by the versatility of the Tuscany Earth Set that I decided to create a second card with a completely different feel. This time, I focused on a more feminine aesthetic. I used a different set of inks: Intense Liquid Colour Bohemian Regals.  All the other parts of the card were made in an identical way to my first card.

Why I am a wee bit smitten with the paints:

  • Vibrant Pigmentation: The Intense Liquid Colors boast a highly pigmented formula, ensuring vibrant and long-lasting results
  • Blendability: The inks work together to create seamless blends which is a bonus when using as a colouring medium. Also if using to create backgrounds, can get a wonderful watery effects too.The inks flow smoothly and blend effortlessly when creating backgrounds. This could with a blending sponge, direct to paper or with a paintbrush.
  • Versatile Palette: The Tuscany Earth Set offers a range of warm, earthy hues that can be used for a variety of projects.
  • High-Quality Ingredients: Bibi Cameron is known for using high-quality, artist-grade pigments, so wouldn't expect anything less!

Things I learned:
  • The paints have a semi staining quality so be careful around absorbent materials. I spilled a little on my dress and although faded when I dabbed it straight away, was worried it had completely stained. However after a quick run through the washing machine, the paint did come out. Summary - if you do get some on your clothes, wash immediately.
  • When adding the Sparkle Inks: Gold, Copper, Bronze & Silver - a little is only needed when mixing with the other inks as the intensity of the metallic pigment is very strong and can overwhelm ... project coming up sharing how I used the metallic inks on black card in my 12"x 12" art journal.
  • Work wonderfully with texture pastes and gel mediums. I have 2 projects to share soon showing how I used the Intense Liquid Color paints with these mediums.
  • Add to clear gesso / mod podge / thin gel mediums (as an example), to create a wonderful glaze. This can be used as a finishing sealer or to age a project.
  • The act and work as if they were an ink but actually are a paint! This truly has surprised me!

I was super chuffed when Bibi asked me to test out the Intense Liquid Colors and Sparkle Base Paints but really wanted to road test them based upon the way(s) I craft as that would then give me a greater understanding of how they worked and also how they would fit in with my crafting style.

So far I have been super impressed with the Intense Liquid Colors and Sparkle Base Paints and how they have worked with each idea I have thrown their way. The only thing really left for me to do now is to test them on different papers/card: mixed media, hot & cold press water colour & different art journals I have.

Until next time, take care,

Lou
