The Power of a Single Gel Print

Gel printing is a fantastic way to create colourful and textured backgrounds for your cards. But what if you could get even more from each print? That's the challenge I set for myself, and the results were amazing! By thinking beyond the single background, I discovered how to create multiple cards with a cohesive look, saving time and resources.

Inspiration & Education: Techniques That Last

Even though this YouTube video was created a while ago, the techniques I share are timeless and relevant for today's card makers. Gel printing with Oxide inks is a versatile and inspiring way to create unique cards, and I hope this project has given you some fresh ideas to try!

Oxide Inks: The Perfect Partner for Gel Printing

In this project, I used Ranger Distress Oxide Inks for their incredible blending capabilities and unique chalky finish. These inks react beautifully with water, allowing you to create layered effects and stunning gradients on your Gelli plate. They're a staple in my crafting stash, and I highly recommend them for gel printing!

In my YouTube video, I demonstrate how to create additional printed elements from your Gelli plate. This includes:

  • Ghost Prints: Using the residual ink on the plate to create lighter, more subtle prints.
  • Layering with texture stamps: Adding patterns and textures with stamps
  • Creating Panels for Die Cutting or Stamping: Printing onto smaller pieces of cardstock for added versatility.

These extra elements can be die-cut, stamped on, or used as panels to add depth and interest to your cards.

3 Cards, 1 Background: A Step-by-Step Guide

Card #1: Sending Love & Light

This card idea using a portion of the gel print to make a panel to fit a DL card base. I used the extra gel printed pieces to make panels and also cut out some of these to make embellishments. These compliment the texture stamps to compliment the background.

Card #2: From our House to Yours

Another panel was cut from the same gel print to fit a 5,5" x 5.5" square card base. This time I have used the extra gel print extras with a Sweet Dixie Wreath die set. I have also cut out some of  the texture stamps printed to compliment the background. I really wanted to make a non-traditional Christmas card.

Card #3: Just to say your awesome in every way

The final card I made was using a panel, (again from the same 1 print), to fit an A6 card base. All the different embellishment pieces are either die cuts or stamped pieces left over from the cards above!
