Creating Vibrant Cards with Tsukineko VersaColor Neon Inks: Embracing White Space
Welcome to Neon Ink Fun!
If you caught my last reel — or even if you didn’t! — you’ll know I’ve been exploring Tsukineko VersaColor Neon Ink Pads. After reviewing them and seeing how versatile they are (check out my full VersaColor Neon Ink review and swatches), I wanted to test them on a card project where white space takes centre stage.

Neon. Just the word can make some crafters (and even me, sometimes!) raise an eyebrow. 'Too bright?' 'Too much?' 'Will it even play nicely?' But here's the thing – I've always had a soft spot for neons. They're not just for shouting 'HERE I AM!' They can add an unexpected lift to a colour palette, bring a bit of joy to a background, or simply give that perfect, vibrant pop you didn't know you needed. I think you'll see why in this project!

Step-by-Step Neon Card Tutorial
1. Preparing Your Card and Stamps
I stamped my main images in Neon Pink. While the ink was still wet, I embossed them with clear powder for shine. Then, I used a separate card for a full coloured Geisha image, giving me control to watercolour with neon inks without worrying about placement.
2. Embracing White Space
White space lets your focal images shine and balances vibrant colours. On this card, I left areas of the card base clean while layering the coloured Geisha, Japanese characters, and sentiment strips.
3. Layering and Finishing Touches
I used 3D foam pads to lift the Geisha and sentiment, giving the card depth. Light touches of paint and ink around the edges unified the layers without overpowering the neon colours.
Tip: Neon inks dry faster than traditional watercolours, so work quickly when blending large areas.

Watch the Process
I’ve created a short reel showing the full cardmaking process — from stamping to finishing touches. Seeing the inks in action helps illustrate how to place images, layer colours, and use white space effectively.
Why Neon Inks Are Fun for Cardmaking
Neon inks aren’t just for bold statements — they can elevate traditional designs, add joy, and bring colour to unexpected places. After exploring my Ink Pad Swatch stamp set, I’ve realized so many of my inks were waiting to be used in new ways. Neon inks are perfect for:
-
Watercolouring focal images

Creating pops of vibrant colour on clean designs

Layering with embossing for shine and depth
