This Is Your Sign to Shine | Funky ZinskiArt Mixed Media Tag
At the beginning of October Art Inspirations launched their Designs by Zinski Collection and I had a blast creating with all the new stamp designs. I have already shared an art journal page 👉HERE👈but today I’m excited to show you a bright, layered mixed media tag using the new stamps and stencil.
This mixed media tag, featuring the Designs by Zinski Sign to Shine / Fierce stamp and the Feelin' Foxy stencil, was such a fun, retro-coloured play session inspired by vintage sheet music and bold 70’s colour.
What I am I sharing today?
In this tutorial I’ll show you step-by-step how I created a colourful layered mixed media tag inspired by vintage sheet music and bold 70’s colour.
I used the ZinskiArt Sign to Shine / Fierce stamp set, the Feelin’ Foxy stencil, Distress Spray inks, heat-embossed florals, and a fun silhouette pattern technique.
This is your sign to shine
Recently I picked up some damaged music books in a local charity shop (as you do!) and immediately saw background potential. I adhered one of the pages to a mixed media tag… and then the fun really began.
Distress Oxide Sprays: I started with Wild Honey and Mustard Seed Distress Oxide sprays for a sunny base layer over the music sheet.
Stencil Layers: Using the Feelin’ Foxy stencil and Abandoned Coral Distress Spray, I added patterned layers - starting in the centre and working outwards for a balanced look.
Stencilled Frame: With the same stencil and Uncharted Mariner Oxide ink, I used the wobbly border sections to create a loose frame around the tag.
Heat-Embossed Details: I stamped the small florals from the Sign to Shine/Fierce stamp set and heat-embossed them in white along the tag edges.
2] Adding pattern to the silhouette
These silhouette stamps are solid designs which means they’re perfect for adding your own pattern!
I stamped the silhouette in Versafine Clair Nocturne, then stamped over the inked image using one of the small flowers so the pattern lifted and transferred.
Pro tip: don’t waste the ink on the small stamp — stamp it onto spare card and save it for another project!
Once dry, I cut out the silhouette and added it to the tag with 3D foam pads for depth.
I stamped, coloured, and fussy-cut extra florals and leaves, arranging them around the silhouette to build dimension and movement.
To finish, I stamped the sentiment on a strip of card and tucked it just under her feet, grounding the design.
Why this idea works
This technique is perfect if you love quirky character stamps, bold colour, and playful layers.
The silhouette gives you a blank canvas to fill with patterns, doodles, or texture, making every project feel unique and full of personality.
I adore the funky 70’s vibe of this tag and can’t wait to try something similar in my art journal — maybe making the silhouette the star of the page next time.
If you give this patterned silhouette technique a try, I’d love to see what you make - feel free to tag me so I can cheer you on! And if this idea sparked something for you, pop it on your mixed media Pinterest board to come back to later.
Thank you for visiting today. Take care & see you soon,
xxx
