Designing in My Own Name: continuing the conversation ...

There’s something quietly significant about designing under your own name.

Some of you may remember that I previously designed stamps under Shady Designs. Those collections shaped an important part of my creative journey, but within them were ideas that never quite felt finished - certain shapes and motifs that felt like the beginning of a conversation rather than the end.

Side-by-side comparison of two art journal pages using the same film strip and floral stamp design. One page is created on a black 12 x 12 background with white gel pen and coloured pencil highlights, while the other is in a smaller A5 journal using watercolour brush pens in softer tones.

This collection feels like returning to pick up that thread. For this first introduction, I wanted to show the same core design interpreted in two different ways.

Limiting the palette allows the structure to take centre stage, with the white pen lifting details and creating contrast. Some of the additional elements were created by drawing through a stencil with the white pen - a technique I return to often.

Art journal page on black paper featuring film strip style stamps with floral motifs, highlighted with white gel pen and three coloured pencils. Additional stencil details add subtle texture. High-contrast, structured composition.

The second page uses watercolour brush pens in a smaller A5 journal. The colours are softer, more fluid, and the overall feel is lighter - but the design foundation remains the same.

Smaller A5 art journal page using the same film strip and floral stamp design in watercolour brush pens. Softer colours and fluid style, demonstrating layered textures and flexible interpretation of the same motif.

The stamps are simply a starting point. How you interpret them - through colour, scale, contrast and layout - is entirely yours. Although I naturally gravitate towards art journaling, the imagery translates just as comfortably into cardmaking and mixed media work. As with my previous designs, the intention is simple: to give you elements that allow you to create in your own way.

What I love most about seeing these two pages side by side is how differently they feel, despite sharing the same foundation. It’s a gentle reminder that tools don’t dictate creativity - they support it. The choices you make with colour, scale and contrast shape the outcome far more than the materials themselves.

This collection is a collaboration with Art Inspirations and is available directly through their website. Click the image below to explore the full release.
