Creating a Book with Stencils – A Different Way to Use the Art Inspirations Frame Stencils

A little while ago, I did a YouTube Live for Art Inspirations. It was a craft-a-long to share some ideas using the new Frame Stencils I designed for Art Inspirations.

Let's just say the whole live was a little "painful"! The stream quality wasn't great, the picture was blurred and distorted for much of the time, and my phone decided to have a mind of its own. Whilst nobody really complained, I certainly did!

It's not about everything having to be perfect, but I couldn't quite leave this one alone. I'd been excited about sharing the idea and felt it deserved another outing, so I've recorded a new YouTube video going back over the process. I've also made a little tweak to the original idea, although the main concept remains the same.

Creating a book with the Frame Stencils

The whole premise of the original live was to show how you could use the Frame Stencils as a starting point for creating a book.

It was an idea that could be developed and added to, but I wanted to give people an initial starting point and show how the stencils could help with the construction and design.

Whilst I tend to use stencils more for art journaling, I know that's not everyone's thing. I wanted to show that the frames could be used in different creative ways and aren't just for adding a decorative layer to a journal page.

You can watch the new video below, where I take you through the idea and how I put it together.

Of course, I had to add a little more!

Now, me being me, I couldn't quite leave the finished book alone!

I used a Micron pen and the stencil to frame the individual frames, drawing the lines around the oval designs. It's a simple addition, but it helps draw your eye into the shapes and gives them a little more definition.

I also added some subtle, loose colouring using Sakura Koi brush pens. Nothing too precise or elaborate, just enough colour to bring the pages together.

I suppose I could have included these finishing touches in the video, but that's not really what it was about.

The video is more about sharing an idea and giving you somewhere to start. What you do with it afterwards is entirely up to you. You might follow the same approach, add your own embellishments, change the colours or take the whole idea in a completely different direction.

And that's what I enjoy about creating projects like this. Sometimes all you need is a starting point to see where your own ideas take you.

Thank you ever so much for popping by today, and I hope you'll enjoy having a go at creating something with your Frame Stencils.

Until next time, take care,

Lou xxx
