Art journaling is a beautiful journey of self-expression. But what happens to those cherished pages once filled? Here's how to unlock their hidden potential and transform them into stunning greeting cards:

Here's where the magic happens! Let's explore ways to transform your art journal page into a greeting cards. I am using Pink Ink Designs Flight of the Bumble Bee stamp set and full list of everything used can be found at the bottom of this post.

Identifying card worthy elements:

  • Focal points: Look for captivating elements within your art journal spread that could serve as the central focus on a card. This could be a vibrant floral design, an abstract pattern, or an intriguing collage.
  • Colour palettes: Consider the overall colour scheme of your spread. Can specific colour combinations be repurposed for a cohesive card design?
  • Sentiments & themes: Does your art journal page evoke a particular emotion or theme? This can guide you in choosing appropriate sentiments or embellishments for your card.

My ideas

Below is an art journal page I made using Pink Inks Flight of the Bumblebee stamp set. When I looked back at the page, I could then see two card ideas but let's look at my art journal page first.

Art journal page

When I saw the images on the stamp set, I automatically went "repeating pattern" as the designs would let me create an A4 page easily. I went for a vintage wallpaper look for my page but for my cards, I choose different colourways. The longest part of creating this page was colouring all the smaller details with a micron pen.

Card idea #1

I have kept to the original art journal idea with the repeating pattern for my 6" x 6" finished card. I made the stamped solid panels a little more vivid which then made the other images stand out a little more.

I made the centre panel/piece stand out more by adding sparkle powder to the saffron ink and layering up the bee image plus sentiment.

Card idea #2

For this card, I have used just a smaller part of the repeating pattern and choose a different colour. I also stamped the different bee images and only choose to colour one.

This and the centre panel, have all be layered up with 3D foam to stand out from the background.

The beauty of this process lies in its flexibility. Experiment with different techniques, let your creativity flow, and most importantly, have fun! Your art journal pages hold endless possibilities for crafting heartfelt and one-of-a-kind greeting cards.

Until next time, take care,
