Turning a small 3D die in to the main feature on a mixed media canvas - with Tonic Studios Tiny Treasure Tome collection
Tonic Studios have a new release today as the "One Day Wonder" on Create & Craft TV called "Tiny Treasured Tome" and although these make smaller 3D projects, I wanted to prove that they can also make or be part of, larger projects too.
With this in mind, I have created a mixed media canvas making the Treasured Tome as the centre and focal piece ...
The canvas size is A4, so not small in case you were wondering, and I think that the Tiny Treasured Tome looks very commanding in the centre. I began by adding my background using Nuvo Mica Mist in Crimson Velvet & Antique Gold, then Nuvo Expanding mousse in Red leather and finally, Chai Latte embellishment mousse.
Next, I die cut lots of angel wings from Craft perfect grey board and also from Craft Perfect metal sheets in Golden Blonde - media dies, Cupid Collection. These were added to the canvas, from the outside in to the centre, which is my preferred way. The grey board pieces were coloured first with chai latte embellishment mousse, then red leather expanding mousse and finally dry brushed with white gesso.
Once all the wings were dry, I die cut the Tiny Treasured Tome in white card but all the embellishment pieces in Craft Perfect metal - Golden Blonde. I made up my box/tome and added it to the centre of the canvas to cover up where the wings finished but before sticking it down, I added my ribbon fastening.
Now I have to say that the box looked a little strange just suck on to the canvas, so I quickly die cut out a dress form using media dies, Made to Measure and coloured this with Chai Latter mousse and spritzed with Crimson Velvet mist. This was then cut in half with the top added to the top and the bottom portion to the bottom.
I would like to enter my canvas in to the following challenges:
Arty Divas - anything goes
Lemon Shortbread - anything goes
Try it on a Tuesday - splatters and splodges
Dragonfly Dreams - things with wings
Corrosive Challenges - anything goes

I also decorated the inside of the box which can be revealed by opening the ribbon closure ...
On the outside of the box opening, I have added some more mixed media die cuts: banner and small hearts - cut from CP grey board and coloured with Red leather expanding mousse. The sentiment is from the Tiny Treasured Tome and has been cut in black with a metal backing. I used an embossing tool to carefully push through the lettering making it more pronounced. The heart apertures that you can see, are also another die supplied within the collection.
As a final finishing and to satisfy the faff in me (lol), I have die cut extra hearts (from grey board using media dies Cupids Collection) and coloured each with Red Leather expanding mousse. I couldn't resist adding some gesso highlights too. The wee little gold hearts are the waste pieces from the decorative panels and it really did seem such wasteful not to add them to my canvas.
TINY TREASURED TOME PROJECTS
All in all I created 7 projects using this wonderful, versatile die set. You can check out the other six below. Click on the photos to be taken to the blog post featuring that project.
Phew, think that's everything and I hope that I have shown how we should never underestimate something small,
